Structural inequality is the trademark of contemporary India. One of the sources of structural inequality in India is her age-old caste system. Manu Smruti, one of the most popular ancient Indian texts, throws light on the mysterious origin and development of castes and outcastes. It tells us how people are divided as castes and outcastes and how power and domination operate between them with the help of caste rules like a perfect machine oiled by coercion and violence. In this article we are analysing the characteristics of the socio-economic life of untouchables or outcastes in ancient India. We explore how social restrictions on occupational choices, spatial mobility and cultural participation shape the fate of outcastes in ancient India.

The present paper aims at - how the word "refrain" plays a vital role in Mulkraj Anand's Novel "Two Leaves and a Bud". According to grammar, the word "refrain" has two lexical performances: As a Noun and As a verb - as a noun the word means: "a phrase or a verse recurring at intervals in a song or poem, especially at the end of each stanza in chorus." - as a verb the same word means: "stop oneself from doing something." The novel "Two Leaves and a Bud" takes its title from the simple refrain which the tea leaves gatherers, at the Macpherson Tea Estate in Assam, recite as they pick two leaves and a bud: I will make a sheaf Plucking, plucking, plucking Two leave and a bud Two leave and a bud The workers at the work place sing this type of refrain for getting rid of tiredness. But the hidden pathos behind the refrain makes the workers refrain from thinking of their own welfare, human justice as well as human rights. It is an attempt to show the pathetic conditions of the Indian labourers at the tea estates; how they are, brutally, exploited by the rulers and also why the poor workers at the tea plantation refrain from protesting against injustice and inhumanity instead of enjoying themselves by singing the refrain at work.

This research paper investigates the effectiveness of monetary policy in controlling inflation in India, utilizing empirical analysis and insights from existing literature. Through regression analysis and examination of historical trends, the study explores the relationship between monetary policy variables and inflation outcomes, providing valuable implications for policymakers and stakeholders. Findings suggest significant impacts of policy instruments such as the repo rate, reverse repo rate, and Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) on both Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation. Policy recommendations include clear communication, flexibility in policy instruments, and coordination with fiscal authorities to achieve price stability and sustainable economic growth. Future research avenues include exploring dynamic effects of policy changes, sectoral impacts of monetary policy, and comparative studies with other countries' experiences.

women have played diverse roles in times of war, often contributing to the war efforts in various ways. Despite facing significant societal and cultural barriers. It is estimated that close to 90 per cent of current war casualties are civilians, the majority of whom are women and children, compared to a century ago when 90 per cent of those who lost their lives were military personnel.Although entire communities suffer the consequences of armed conflict, women and girls are particularly affected because of their status in society and their sex. Parties in conflict situations often rape women, sometimes using systematic rape as a tactic of war. Other forms of violence against women committed in armed conflict include murder, sexual slavery, forced pregnancy and forced sterilization.Despite this, women should not be viewed solely as victims of war. They assume the key role of ensuring family livelihood in the midst of chaos and destruction, and are particularly active in the peace movement at the grassroots level, cultivating peace within their communities. However, the absence of women at the peace negotiating table is undeniable. This paper examines the struggles of the Tamil women in the civil war of Sri Lanka.
