  Abstract


Yoga for special needs children is adapted from traditional yoga to enhance their abilities like physical, mental, or emotional wellbeing. Yoga techniques are flexible and from an inclusive approach, ensuring children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and ADHD (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) can also do them. Adding on modifications to pose, breathing exercises, or adding mindfulness activities will allow yoga to be tailored to individual needs, enhancing a sense of empowerment and accomplishment. Research reveals that yoga for special needs helps motor skill development, helps the child focus and pay attention, reduces the child's anxiety, and aids the child in making social interaction. Because of these benefits, yoga is an effective therapeutic tool for both physical and psychological challenges. Besides, props, visual aids and one on one guidance eliminate the risk of injury and provide an engagement opportunity for kids, in a nurturing atmosphere where children are supported.
