Abstract
Agriculture has long been the backbone of rural livelihoods in India, especially among indigenous communities whose cultural identity and socio economic life are intricately linked to land and ecological practices. About 61 percent of population in Assam engaged in agricultural activities (Economic Survey, 2014-2015) and more than 75 percent population of the state continues to practice agriculture for their daily livelihood. Among the indigenous communities of North east India, the Mising community has deep rooted agricultural traditions that have evolve through centuries of interaction with the local environment.
