The World Health Organization reports a 15% prevalence of LBW globally, with factors such as malnutrition, lack of healthcare, and adolescent motherhood contributing to the issue. South Asia has the highest prevalence, often exceeding 20%, due to factors like maternal undernutrition and socioeconomic challenges. LBW infants face significant short-term and long-term health outcomes, including increased mortality risks, developmental issues, respiratory issues, nutritional challenges, and jaundice.
