Colors have been recognized as symbols since the ancient times when it was first noticed that they can be used as a separate language with every color bearing a specific meaning. This can be traced in different ancient myths, folklore, traditional tales and even mystic teachings. The color preferences of a person often speak of his or her personality, mood and the perception of reality. That is why the colors that we choose at a particular time period characterize us and our worldview at this time. Of course, the choice of colors depends on many factors, such as age, gender, education, temper, character, mood etc. Linguists and literary critics, as well as experienced readers notice that writers and poets can use colors to convey their mood and emotional state, that is why poetry is usually loaded with emotions expressed in various color combinations and color-based images. The present research article focuses on the peculiarities of color symbolism in the poetry of the great Russian poet Sergey Yesenin.
