Abstract
This paper attempts to analyse the interrelation of personal and political dynamics in Jahnavi Baruah's Next Door, with relation to the socio-political scenario in Assam. The main focus of it will be on the depiction of violence and the sufferings of ordinary people. It also analyzes the power dynamics in relation to the political violence that has trapped the region for decades. It also aims to show how this region has been marginalised and the conflict between the military and the militants has become a quotidian phenomenon and try to point out the functioning of necropower in a democracy. Further, it will try to locate the importance of this book in the larger paradigm of women's writings from the Northeast and highlight the portrayal of women caught in conflicts, not only in the political sphere but also in the personal space.
