Abstract
This paper explores the complex relationship between food and human emotion in Anjali Joseph's novel Another Country, using Donald Winnicott's theory of transitional objects as a psychoanalytic framework to conduct a literary study. Food in the novel serves as a powerful medium for reflecting and mediating the protagonist Leela Ghosh's emotional states and cultural identity. Through a detailed analysis, the paper demonstrates how food acts as a transitional object, providing comfort and continuity amidst Leela's personal and cultural dislocations. The paper also highlights how culinary experiences mirror Leela's inner turmoil and facilitate moments of connection and intimacy, helping her navigate complex emotional landscapes.
