Automatic Number Plate Detection (ANPR), also referred to as Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR), is a technology that plays a crucial role in modern surveillance and traffic management systems. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of ANPR technology, focusing on its technical aspects, implementation strategies, benefits, and impact on various sectors. The paper discusses the history and development of ANPR, key components of ANPR systems, image pre-processing techniques, license plate localization, segmentation algorithms, and optical character recognition methods.
