Homo Sapiens are not aliens to planet earth. Scientific discourse directly underlines the evolutionary nature of life on earth, and religion and culture covertly allude to the concept. Relegated to the realms of fantasy and sci-fi, literature right from the form of myth and folklore populate the stories with character concepts born out of the association of human beings and animals on earth: many a character is delineated as a human-animal hybrid in all literature of all ages. The harry potter series as a fantasy work had readily offered scope for such hybrids and J. K. Rowling has diligently and comprehensively embarked on an endeavour to create a host of such hybrids to embellish her story. Any literary study to analyse the underlying nature of human-animal hybrids in the series and their role in the construction of the dialogue by the author can throw light on the value of the work as a socially conscious piece of juvenile literature. This paper aims at exploring the nature and role of human-animal hybrids, Werewolves and Animagi, who populate the Harry Potter series.
