In today's dynamic and highly competitive business environment, organizations require effective leadership and management practices to achieve sustainable growth and organizational success. The increasing complexity of organizational operations, technological advancements, and changing workforce expectations have transformed the traditional role of managers, necessitating the development of strong leadership competencies. This paper examines the relationship between leadership and management and highlights the significance of managerial competencies in enhancing organizational effectiveness. While management focuses on planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling organizational resources, leadership emphasizes vision, motivation, innovation, and the ability to influence people toward the achievement of common goals. Effective leaders inspire employees, foster teamwork, encourage innovation, and facilitate organizational change, whereas managers ensure operational efficiency, coordination, and stability. The study argues that leadership and management are complementary functions rather than opposing concepts and that organizational success depends on the effective integration of both roles. The paper further explores the evolving responsibilities of managers as leaders and emphasizes the importance of competencies such as communication, decision-making, emotional intelligence, adaptability, strategic thinking, and ethical behaviour. These competencies enable managers to respond effectively to organizational challenges and create a productive work environment.
