  Abstract


Brush-less DC (BLDC) motor, currently has become a prime preference in treatment of electrical motors in many applications due to its simple construction and high speed process. This project depicts a photo-voltaic fed high voltage gain DC-DC converter for BLDC motor drive application and BLDC motor drive is controlled using a simplified control strategy. Low voltage DC output from photo-voltaic (PV) system is stepped-up to desired value using a high-gain DC-DC converter. The configuration of high-gain DC-DC converter with MPPT operation is depicted. The output of DC-DC converter is fed to BLDC motor through a inverter for BLDC motor drive. Speed control of BLDC motor is achieved using a simplified speed control method in this project and speed control is achieved sensing the actual motor speed and compared using PI controller. This type of motor drive is very much suitable for air-conditioner applications. The system under study has shown various desired functions such as maximum power extraction of the SPV array, soft starting of BLDC motor, fundamental frequency switching of VSI resulting in reduced switching losses, speed control of BLDC motor without any additional control. Proposed system was developed and results are analyzed using MATLAB/SIMULINK software.
