Abstract
The advent of social media has revolutionized communication, creating both opportunities and challenges for students' academic performance. This research examines the dual effects of social media engagement on educational outcomes, addressing its potential as both a distraction and a valuable educational tool. The primary aim is to investigate how various platforms influence students' focus, motivation, and learning strategies. To achieve this, a mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys of student usage patterns with qualitative interviews exploring personal experiences related to social media in academic contexts. Results indicate that while excessive social media use correlates with lower academic achievement due to distractions and procrastination, strategic and purposeful engagement can enhance collaboration, information sharing, and peer support among students. The implications of this study are significant, highlighting the need for educators to understand social media's complex role in learning environments. By fostering informed usage and digital literacy, educational institutions can better equip students to navigate the challenges and benefits of social media, ultimately promoting improved academic outcomes. This research contributes to the growing discourse on digital education, suggesting pathways for future exploration and practical applications within academic settings.
