The issue of heavy metals in India due to industrial waste sludge stems from the inadequate management of toxic industrial byproducts. Rapid industrialization generates waste containing heavy metals like lead, cadmium, and mercury, which are often improperly disposed of in open dumps or water bodies. This study encompasses the industrial waste sludge collected from common effluent treatment plant at Kurkumbh MIDC in Pune, to examine presence of heavy metals in the sludge sample and further carry out the process of bioleaching. This study aims to assess the efficiency of microorganisms in removing heavy metals through bioleaching. The metals present in the sludge are Zinc, Copper, and Iron. Following the bioleaching process for 14 days, the total extraction percentages of these heavy metals were determined to be 84.33% for Zinc, 71.03% for Copper, and 25.04% for Iron. In conclusion, bioleaching stands as a promising technology for the removal of heavy metals from industrial waste sludge, offering a sustainable and eco-friendly approach to mitigate the detrimental effects of heavy metal contamination on our environment and public health.

Dickens' early novels are replete with pictures of a squalid London life with its dingy lanes, shabby marketplaces and choking workhouses, which together put up a veritable spectacle of suffering. They mirror forth the drawbacks of a utilitarian society and the failure of the Poor Law in saving the orphans and castaways from going astray or turning into hapless preys to criminal gangs. What emerges from these novels is the sense of an unbridgeable socio-economic hiatus existing between the solvent moneyed class and the people belonging to the lowest rung of society, people who were considered beyond redemption. Oliver Twist very subtly seeks to explode this myth by allowing Nancy, a lowly and apparently insignificant character as well as a member of the so-called criminal community, play a pivotal role in disrupting the stasis in the existing socio-economic order. Gifted with humaneness rare in a woman of her status and possessed with an improbable desire to break free from bondage, she betrays her community and extends a narrative that runs counter to the ostensible motif of the novel. This paper seeks to explore Nancy's role in dismantling the conventional social mores by problematising the term 'criminality' in the context of the 19th Century.

Mouthwash is a water-based solution widely used for its deodorizing, refreshing, and antiseptic properties in maintaining oral hygiene. It aids in controlling plaque accumulation, a sticky amalgamation of bacteria and food particles on teeth. Oral hygiene practices encompass toothbrushing, interdental cleaners, and therapeutic agents such as mouthwash, toothpaste, and chewing gum. Mouthwashes aim to reduce microbial presence in the mouth and may comprise alcohol, glycerin, artificial sweeteners, surfactants, flavorings, and colorings. Herbal remedies have gained popularity for managing dental plaque and gum inflammation, complementing brushing and flossing. While mouthwash may have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, or antifungal effects, fluoride-containing rinses are commonly used at home to prevent tooth decay. Nevertheless, it is widely acknowledged that mouthwash does not replace the need for brushing and flossing. Mouthwashes fulfill two roles: as part of routine oral care at home and for their antibacterial properties. Pre- and post-oral surgical procedures typically involve prophylactic measures. Natural herbs like spinach, neem, and tulsi have been clinically demonstrated to be safe and effective in addressing oral health concerns such as gum bleeding, bad breath, mouth sores, and decay prevention, either singly or in combination.

In recent years, face recognition technology has proved to be the most popular method of contactless biometric system, outstanding the ones based on iris, voice and gait recognition. Smart Doorbell systems are analyzed to break up modern doorbells into generations, of which the Amazon Ring series shines for those who are open to Amazon infrastructure, and the Eufy Video Doorbell remains viable for those who prefer their data to be more local. Moreover, computers can now outperform humans in terms of many face recognition tasks particularly when it comes to searching of faces in larger databases, capturing and storing minute facial details in as minimal format as possible. A system with the ability to detect and recognize faces has many potential outcomes not just in crowded places but in home security systems as well. One such application of automating the household doorbell can not only solve the security issues but also offer extra flexibility to smart house control by recognizing the person at doorstep and announcing the name. We propose a system by making use of Raspberry-Pi with ARMv8 Cortex-A53 as the core. The project aims at porting the Open Source Computer Vision (OpenCV) library to the Raspberry-Pi board and using its pre-trained classifier Haar-Cascade and recognizer Local Binary Pattern Histogram (LBPH) for face detection and recognition purpose. Furthermore, using the Raspberry-pi accelerated command line media player, name of the person will be announced and faces unknown to the database will be captured and stored. This low-cost and low-power system will indeed prove a boon for persons with disabilities.

In India, pottery making dates back countless years. The first group to disengage from food production and engage in a full-time profession was likely the group of potters, who were also likely the first engineers in the history of human civilisation. Along with the ability to control fire, the potter's wheel was a revolutionary technology that had a significant impact on how humans evolved. The traditional potters have historically been among the most under privileged groups in Indian culture. This is a kind of human creation which is as old as human civilization .

Background: Research on COVID-19 acute phase reactants is still important today since it helps with early diagnosis, determining the severity of the illness, and assessing the efficacy of treatment. Critical information about the course and prognosis of the disease can be gained by analyzing the inflammatory response using acute phase reactants such as serum amyloid Acute phase proteins and C-reactive protein. Severe outcomes in COVID-19 individuals have been associated with higher acute phase reactants, lymphopenia, and neutrophil counts. By keeping an eye on these indicators, medical staff can enhance patient care, more efficiently use resources, and possibly even identify patients who are more likely to experience difficulties. All of these things can lead to better clinical outcomes and public health initiatives. Method: The study analyzed data from 200 hospitalized COVID-19 patients at an academic tertiary care hospital between August 2020 and June 2022. It focused on investigating various blood parameters, including C-reactive protein, ferritin, lactate dehydrogenase, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), procalcitonin, and albumin. Inclusion criteria comprised patients with positive COVID-19 RT-PCR results and complete lab records, while exclusion criteria included negative RT-PCR results, incomplete records, hospital stays less than one week, and patient transfers. Result: In our study of 200 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were elevated in 179 (89.5%) patients, with 147 (90.74%) in wards and 32 (84.21%) in ICU. Procalcitonin levels were elevated in 51 (51.51%) patients overall, with 29 (40.85%) in wards and 22 (78.57%) in ICU. Ferritin levels were elevated in 94 (46.5%) patients, with 65 (40.12%) in wards and 28 (73.69%) in ICU. Elevated lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was found in 110 (55%) patients, with 83 (51.23%) in wards and 27 (71.05%) in ICU. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) was high in 128 (64%) patients, with 102 (62.96%) in wards and 26 (68.42%) in ICU. Decreased albumin levels were observed in 44 patients, with 24 (14.82%) in wards and 20 (52.63%) in ICU. Conclusion: Acute phase reactants like CRP, procalcitonin, ferritin, LDH, ESR, and albumin significantly influence COVID-19 progression, severity, and prognosis. Elevated CRP, procalcitonin, ferritin, LDH, ESR, and decreased albumin levels are strongly linked to disease severity and mortality. ICU patients exhibit more pronounced alterations in these markers compared to ward patients, aiding in severity prediction. Increased alterations in acute phase reactants are observed in deceased patients versus recovered ones, facilitating progression and prognosis prediction. Testing for these markers upon hospital admission in suspected or confirmed COVID-19 cases offers valuable prognostic insights. Utilizing acute phase reactants as predictive measures can enhance clinical management in COVID-19 patients.
