According to Indian Standard codal provisions for earthquake considerations it has been found that many structures located in seismically active zones are not capable of withstanding seismic waves. Moreover the seismic behaviour of the existing buildings is affected due to design deficiency, construction deficiency, additional loads, additionalperformance demand, etc.During recent Earthquakes it is observed that the principal cause of collapse of many moment-resisting frame buildings is because ofthe Shear failure ofbeam – column joints. In a view of improving the seismic performance of existing structures, enormous number of research works have been carried out to developvarious strengthening and rehabilitation techniques.During future seismic activitiesRetrofitting processreduces the vulnerability of damage of an existing structure. It aims to strengthen a structure to satisfy the necessities of the current codal provisions for seismic design. In recent years it has been found that among various retrofitting methods, seismic retrofit with FRP materials has gained notable acceptance. Retrofitting with FRP materials is now extensively being used as a seismicretrofitting method and it is a technicallysound and cost effective repairing technology. In this paper, it has been reviewed the possibilities and methods in practice for wrapping the beam column joints. This paper also summarizes the scope and uses of FRP materials such as carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) and Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer(GFRP).

This paper argues that among all other spaces, pedestrian streets in a university campus also serve as “informal creative spaces”, where people meet each other while walking, crossing or simply standing and talking to each other. The study proposes a three-level approach to assess the street scapes of university campuses. First, a walkability audit of the pedestrian streets (sampled sequence) of higher education campuses, using a modified version of the well-established walkability audit tool developed by the Centre for Disease Control, U.S.A. Second, collecting students’ responses on the same influencing factors as used in the audit tool and questionnaire. Third, a topological analysis of the pedestrian streets using space syntax. Finally, a correlation study of the outcomes will be done to understand the factors of walkability relevant to higher education campuses. The syntactic analysis data further backs the findings theoretically. This methodology ensures the importance of pedestrian streets as an ‘informal meeting space’ within higher education campuses by relating walkability to social interaction and creative exchange in higher education campuses. Increased social interaction and liveliness through increasing walkability of pedestrian streets within higher education campuses, and establishing the role of mobility networks in overall campus creativity. The outcomes of the study can be useful for architects and planners to convince the management and decision makers to invest in building and developing pedestrian networks and facilities.

The choice of curricular stream at the pre-university colleges plays a significant role in achieving their aspirations. A sample size of 60 boys, 40 girls; 63 boys, 56 girls; 89 boys, 64girls were randomly, proportionately selected from Shahapur, Shorapur and Yadgir taluk Pre University colleges of Yadgir district in Karnataka for the present study. The study found that Gender has no role in the student’s choice of curricular stream at the Pre University stage in Yadgir district of Karnataka state while as reasons like PU Colleges demand huge donations, doesn’t offer co-education and PU Colleges did not have adequate facilities have no significant bearings on the choice of stream at PU stage. The females and males in almost all streams were not self motivated in choice of stream at Pre University stage, most of the occasions they were influenced by teachers, only father, both parents, friends etc.,

The determination of the fundamental natural period of vibration is essential to design a structure against earthquake loading. Current design codes in India such as IS 1893(Part 1):2002 or IS 875 (Part III):1987 provide formulas for the approximate period of earthquake-resistant building systems, which are dependent only on the height of the structure or number of stories. Such a formulation is overly conservative and unable to account for structures with geometric irregularities. This study investigates the fundamental periods of different types of reinforced concrete earthquake resistant building structures having structurally irregular frames (both vertical and horizontal). A total of 66 MRF structures for set-back, 168 MRF structures for mass irregularity, 90 MRF structures for soft-storey irregularity, 72 MRF structures for re-entrant corner irregularity and 160 MRF structures for torsional irregularity due to heavy mass are analyzed with STAAD.Pro-V8i.
