Euglena is unicellular green algae with two flagella, belongs to the group euglenoids. It is found mostly in small fresh water pools rich in organic matter. These are grow luxuriantly in such waters imparting its colour, dark green to the water body. The present study reveals 28 species of Euglena. These are collected from various parts of Nashik and its tahsils. Among these Euglena acus var. rigida, E. limnophila var. minor, E. obtusa are reported new to India, Few taxa are also little known and appear as first reports for Maharashtra, these are Euglena rostrata, E. wangi .Rests are explored first time from this region. This enriches the algal flora of Nashik.

ABSTRACT Background Tobacco use is generally perceived as an adult problem. The diseases widely caused by tobacco are mostly seen to afflict the older population, yet tobacco use most often starts in youth, vast majority start consuming tobacco before the age of 25 years. Tobacco use has injurious effects on oral health. The oral health is an important aspect of community health. To plan important interventions it is necessary to find out the prevalence and factors associated with them. This study is aimed at assessing the knowledge of adults on hazards of tobacco consumption on oral health and to assess their oral health status. Objectives of the study 1.To assess the oral health status of adults consuming tobacco using observational checklist. 2.To determine the knowledge on hazards of tobacco consumption on oral health. 3.To find an association between oral health status and knowledge on hazards of tobacco consumption on oral health. Methods A descriptive correlative approach was used for this study. The study was carried out in Datia. Research design was correlative design. The sample comprised of 100 adults consuming tobacco (50 tobacco smokers and 50 tobacco chewers). Sample was selected using purposive sampling technique. Formal written permission was obtained to conduct the study and informed consent was obtained from the adults prior to data collection process. Using a structured interview schedule and observation checklist data was collected. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics (unpaired t-test and chi-square test). Result The results of this study showed that there was no significant difference between the knowledge score of tobacco smokers and tobacco chewers (t 98= 0.7, p >0.05). There was no significant difference between oral health status of the tobacco smokers and tobacco chewers (t 98 = 1.85, p >0.05). There was no correlation between knowledge on hazards of tobacco consumption on oral health and oral health status of the smokers (r = 0.0015, p > 0.05). There was no correlation between knowledge on hazards of tobacco consumption on oral health and oral health status of the chewers (r = 0.271, p > 0.05). The computed chi square value showed significant association between occupation of tobacco smokers and oral health status (21 =9.09, p< 0.05). The statistical significance was at 0.05 level Interpretation and Conclusion The study revealed that even though the adults had good knowledge on hazards of tobacco consumption on oral health they had poor oral health status. The findings of the study support the need for conducting educational programme to increase the knowledge of adults on tobacco consumption and its related problems. Educating the youth and adults and providing them with correct information can help them to avoid bad habits and develop as healthy citizens. ABSTRACT Virechana Karma is the second procedure in Panchakarma which is considered as the best therapy to pacify pitta dosha. It is not only beneficial in adult but also in pediatric age group. There are many references that advocate Virechana therapy in children, like in case of eight types of pidika in children in Kashyapa Samhita, susnigdha Virechana has been mentioned. In fakka roga treatment shodhana (Virechana) with trivrita kshir (milk processed with operculina turpithum) is advised. Many other references are also available that indicated benefits of Virechana karma in children. It purifies Rasa-Raktadi dhatu, produces alertness in sensory system (Indriyas). Main indications of Virechana karma in children are Mandagni, Vishamagni, Arochaka, Avipaka, Gulma, Udavarta, Udara roga, pleeha, Pakvvashaya Ruja, Alsaka, Vibandha, Anaha, Chhardi, Krimikostha, Visarpa, Galaganda, Granthi, Apachi, Visphotak, Shwitra, Halimaka, Kamla, Pandu, Shwasa, Kasa etc. The commonly used Virechana drugs (therapeutic purgative) and virechanopaga (purgative associate) medicines in children are Draksha, Trivrita, Haritaki, Aragvadha, Ksheera, Triphala, Gandharva Taila. In pediatric age group there is predominance of Kapha in the body. Virechana karma occurs properly in the condition of manda (mild) kapha so there is need to treat kapha before performing Virechana in children. Virechana drugs in children should be palatable and generally mridu (mild) Virechana should be preferred.

Amylases are crucial enzymes which hydrolyze internal glycosidic linkages in starch and produce as primary products dextrins and oligosaccharides. Amylases are classified into ?-amylase, ?-amylase, and glucoamylase based on their three-dimensional structures, reaction mechanisms, and amino acid sequences. Amylases have innumerable applications in clinical, medical, and analytical chemistries as well as in food, detergent, textile, brewing, and distilling industries. Amylases can be produced from plants, animals, and microbial sources. Due to the advantages in microbial production, it meets commercial needs. The pervasive nature, easy production, and wide range of applications make amylase an industrially pivotal enzyme. Microorganisms are the most important sources for enzyme production. For production of enzymes for industrial use, isolation and characterization of new promising strains using cheap carbon and nitrogen source is a continuous process. Due to their biochemical diversity and the ease with which enzyme concentrations may be increased by environmental and genetic manipulation, attempts are now being made to replace enzymes, which traditionally have been isolated from complex eukaryotes. Starch degrading Amylolytic enzymes are most important in the biotechnology industries with huge application in food, fermentation, textile and paper. Amylases are obtained from various origins like plant, animal, bacterial and fungal.
