A performer-poet of Caribbean origin, living in England, Benjamin Zephaniah's (1958-2023) poetry aims to counterbalance the long-standing White supremacy that directly and/or indirectly jeopardizes the identity of the Black Britons. Widely regarded as one of the most distinct as well as controversial 'other' voices, he ventilates the experiences of racial discrimination and socio-cultural oppression that the Black and brown-skinned immigrants in Britain are susceptible to. But his poems do not simply throb with the tension and anguish of the marginalized but question the logic of domination. In his poems, by celebrating his ancestral Afro-Caribbean heritage, Zephaniah aims to pour a sense of resistance that would permit and encourage the 'coloured' people to feel proud of their difference. The present paper will discuss four poems of Zephaniah, like "We Refugees," "The Race Industry," "Neighbours," and "White Comedy," with a specific purpose to explore how the poet attempts to diminish the dominant ideology of Englishness/Whiteness with a view to articulating the suppressed voice of the Black immigrants. The poems to be discussed amply show that even words of compassion and empathy are not without self-congratulatory politics, satisfying ultimately the White ego. Zephaniah, therefore, always warns the readers of the unrecognizable operation of linguistic and cultural dominance that intends to hegemonize and control the oppressed. The present paper, hence, proposes to examine how the said poems delve into the biased socio-cultural matrix of England to reveal the 'reality' behind its mask of democracy and secularism. It will also focus on how Zephaniah, in these poems especially, proposes a politics of alterity, not of alienation, as a potential means to survive and sustain in the exclusively hierarchical English society.

Urbanization has led to significant biodiversity loss due to habitat destruction, pollution, and climate change. As cities expand, natural ecosystems are fragmented, reducing green cover and disrupting ecological interactions. However, home gardening presents a viable solution to counteract these negative effects by providing crucial habitats for various species, including pollinators, birds, and beneficial insects. By cultivating native plants, creating microhabitats, and adopting sustainable practices, urban residents can enhance biodiversity within their living spaces, transforming cities into greener and more ecologically resilient environments. Biodiversity plays a crucial role in ecosystem stability, air and water purification, climate regulation, and human well-being. However, conventional urban landscapes--characterized by monoculture lawns, concrete structures, and pesticide-laden environments--offer limited ecological benefits. Home gardens, whether in backyards, balconies, terraces, or community plots, serve as essential biodiversity hotspots by fostering plant diversity, supporting pollinators, improving soil health, and providing shelter for small wildlife. These gardens act as stepping stones between fragmented natural areas, helping species navigate and adapt to urban environments. One of the primary ways home gardening enhances biodiversity is through plant diversity. A well-planned garden includes native flowering plants, shrubs, trees, and ground cover, creating multiple habitat layers. This structural complexity attracts pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, which are essential for plant reproduction and ecosystem stability. Additionally, home gardens improve soil health by promoting microbial diversity through composting and organic gardening practices. The presence of diverse plant root systems enhances soil aeration, nutrient cycling, and water retention, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers. Water conservation is another key benefit of home gardening. By incorporating rain gardens, birdbaths, small ponds, and permeable landscaping, urban gardens support amphibians, insects, and birds while mitigating the effects of urban flooding. Sustainable irrigation practices, such as rainwater harvesting and mulching, further enhance water conservation efforts. Additionally, home gardens contribute to climate regulation by reducing urban heat through transpiration, shading, and carbon sequestration. Green roofs and vertical gardens not only improve air quality but also provide additional green spaces for wildlife. Furthermore, home gardening helps control invasive species by promoting indigenous flora, which supports native wildlife. Many invasive species disrupt food chains and outcompete local plants, reducing biodiversity. By selecting native plants and avoiding chemical pesticides, home gardeners can restore ecological balance and encourage natural pest control through beneficial insects such as ladybugs, spiders, and predatory wasps. Successful urban gardening initiatives worldwide demonstrate the potential of home gardens in biodiversity conservation. Programs like Singapore's community gardening initiative, the Pollinator Pathway Project in the USA, and India's urban terrace gardening movement highlight how collective efforts can transform cities into thriving ecological hubs. These initiatives emphasize the importance of education, policy support, and community involvement in promoting biodiversity-friendly gardening practices. To maximize biodiversity benefits, policymakers should provide incentives for sustainable gardening, integrate green spaces into urban planning, and encourage citizen participation in conservation efforts. Through home gardening, urban residents can contribute to environmental sustainability, improve their quality of life, and play a pivotal role in restoring biodiversity in cities. As urbanization continues, embracing nature-based solutions like home gardening is essential for building resilient and sustainable urban ecosystems.

Background: Globally, Type-II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a significant public health concern, especially in rural regions with low healthcare access and awareness. Due to a lack of awareness about preventative measures, rural populations in India are more vulnerable to the rising prevalence of T2DM. The purpose of this study is to assess how well an information, education, and communication (IEC) package can increase rural people' awareness of T2DM prevention in Kathua, Jammu, and Kashmir. Methods: For this investigation, a pre-experimental, one-group pre-test-post-test design was used. 400 adults in rural areas were chosen by non-probability convenience sampling. A systematic knowledge questionnaire that was given both before and after the IEC intervention was used to gather data. Pre-test and post-test knowledge scores were compared in order to evaluate the intervention's efficacy. Results: The pre-test results showed that 67.25% of participants had inadequate knowledge regarding T2DM prevention. After the IEC intervention, 61.5% of participants demonstrated adequate knowledge, while only 6.25% had inadequate knowledge. A significant improvement in knowledge was observed, with a p-value of < 0.0001, indicating the effectiveness of the IEC package in enhancing participants' understanding of T2DM prevention. Conclusion: The IEC package significantly improved knowledge about T2DM prevention among rural adults in Kathua. This study suggests that IEC-based interventions are effective tools for raising awareness and promoting preventive measures in rural communities, which could contribute to reducing the burden of T2DM.

This paper explores the role of women in spirituality through the lens of Vedanta, one of the foundational schools of Indian philosophy. Vedanta, derived from the Upanishads, Brahma Sutras, and the Bhagavad Gita, posits a non-dualistic understanding of reality, emphasizing that the essence of the individual self (Atman) is identical to the ultimate reality (Brahman). Despite this philosophical framework advocating for spiritual equality, historical and cultural contexts have often marginalized women's roles in spiritual practices. By examining ancient texts, such as the Upanishads, and notable figures like Gargi and Maitreyi, this study highlights the significant contributions of women in early Vedantic discourse. It further discusses the emergence of Bhakti movements, which provided women with avenues for spiritual expression and leadership, exemplified by figures such as Mirabai. The paper also addresses modern interpretations of Vedanta by contemporary thinkers like Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo, who emphasized the importance of women's empowerment within spiritual contexts. Ultimately, the analysis reveals a tension between Vedantic ideals of gender transcendence and the historical realities of women's participation in spirituality. The paper concludes by asserting that while challenges persist, the evolving role of women in Vedantic spirituality reflects a dynamic interplay between ancient wisdom and contemporary feminist perspectives, fostering a more inclusive spiritual landscape.

Cattle farming is a vital part of the agricultural industry. However, one of the challenges that farmers face is the difficulty in monitoring their cattle and preventing them from wandering outside the designated area. This project aims to address this problem by developing a cattle detection system using IR sensors and a NodeMCU board. The system consists of three IR sensors placed at the entrances to a field, which detect when a cattle enters the field. The sensor data is sent to a NodeMCU board, which is programmed to generate alerts over the internet using a Blynk server. The alerts can be received on a smartphone, or any device connected to the internet. Additionally, a buzzer is used to generate sound alerts for people in the vicinity of the field. The project involves the use of the Arduino IDE to write the code for the system and the installation of the sensors, NodeMCU board, and buzzer at the entrances to the field. The sensors are connected to the NodeMCU board, which processes the data and sends it to the Blynk server. The Blynk app is used to configure the alerts and receive notifications. The system is intended to help farmers monitor the movement of their cattle and prevent them from wandering outside the designated area. It can also be expanded to include additional features such as camera feeds and data logging. With this system, farmers can receive alerts in real-time and respond quickly to any issues that arise. It can help reduce the workload of farmers and improve the overall efficiency of the cattle farming industry. In conclusion, the cattle detection system developed in this project provides an innovative solution to the problem of monitoring cattle in a field. It combines the use of IR sensors, a NodeMCU board, and a Blynk server to provide real-time alerts and sound alerts for people in the vicinity of the field. This project can be useful for farmers, agricultural companies, and anyone involved in the cattle farming industry.

The agricultural sector is the backbone of many economies, providing livelihoods for millions and ensuring food security globally. However, it faces persistent challenges that undermine its growth and sustainability. One of the most pressing issues is the detrimental role of intermediaries or middlemen in the supply chain. In traditional agricultural systems, intermediaries dominate the value chain, exercising control over pricing, distribution, and market access. This often results in significant inefficiencies, including unfair pricing, wastage, and limited market reach for farmers. Consequently, farmers, who bear the labour-intensive burden of production, receive only a minimal share of the profits. These inefficiencies perpetuate income disparity and exploitation, leaving farmers vulnerable to economic instability. This emerges as a pioneering solution to address these systemic issues, fostering a transparent, equitable, and sustainable agricultural ecosystem. By leveraging technology and innovation, this empowers farmers to regain control over their livelihoods, ensuring fair pricing, improved market access, and sustainable practices

Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disorder characterized by decreased bone mineral density (BMD), leading to bone fragility and an increased risk of fractures. It is particularly prevalent in postmenopausal women due to estrogen deficiency, with significant variations in prevalence across regions. Osteoporosis can be classified into primary (age-related or postmenopausal) and secondary forms, the latter arising from various underlying conditions or medications. Postmenopausal osteoporosis, resulting from hormonal changes after menopause, significantly accelerates bone loss, particularly in the trabecular bone. The pathophysiology involves an imbalance between bone resorption and formation, exacerbated by estrogen deficiency. Risk factors for osteoporosis include non-modifiable factors such as age, gender, and family history, and modifiable factors such as smoking, calcium deficiency, and sedentary lifestyle. Diagnosis relies on bone mineral density (BMD) assessments through DXA scans, with treatment options including pharmacological therapies (e.g., hormone replacement therapy, bisphosphonates, and anabolic agents) and non-pharmacological strategies (e.g., dietary recommendations, exercise, and lifestyle changes). Effective management of osteoporosis involves a combination of medications, supplements, and lifestyle modifications to prevent fractures and improve quality of life.
