 Abstract

Despite decades of investment on agricultural development and various policy attempts, India has witnessed one of the highest farmer suicide rates in the world. As per reports of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a total of 3.21 lakh farmers committed suicide in India since 1995, which is 13.1 per cent of all reported suicide cases (24.53 lakh). As per latest report of Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India 2015, a total of 12,602 persons involved in farming sector (consisting of 8,007 farmers/cultivators and 4,595 agricultural labourers) have committed suicides during 2015, accounting for 9.4 per cent of total suicides victims (1.34 lakh) in the country. Karnataka recorded the highest number of farmer suicides in the southern region and the second highest in India, in 2018. In this backdrop, the present paper is analyzed and explores the spatial pattern of farmer suicides in Karnataka. The analysis suggests that long term comprehensive polices are to be required to reduce indebtedness among agricultural households and prevent suicide in farm sector.

 Abstract

Apple pomace is a by-product of apple juice processing industry containing good nutritional value that provides health benefits. The chemical analysis revealed that apple pomace powder contains 3.57% protein, 20.1% crude fiber and 1.70% ash. It could be considered as a potential functional ingredient for food product development. The research study was conducted to incorporate apple pomace powder for nutritional upliftment of cookies. Fiber rich cookies were formulated by substituting refined wheat flour with apple pomace powder at 5%, 10%, 15% and evaluated for its physical, chemical and sensory characteristics. The sensory evaluation by semi-trained panels revealed that cookies incorporated with 10% apple pomace powder have shown maximum consumer acceptability in terms of all sensory attributes and recorded highest scores for colour (7.6), flavor (8.1), texture (8.4), taste (8.5) and overall acceptability (8.4). Thus, apple pomace powder can be successfully utilized in cookies resulting in enhanced nutritional & sensory characteristics.

 Abstract

Customers' expectations, needs and desires have changed substantially over the years. A single product or service offered by companies can no longer satisfy their wide array of needs. 'Customization' of products and services is the buzzword of today's businesses which has completely replaced the older concept of 'standardization'. However, it is also impossible to produce customized and distinctly unique products for each and every customer which gives birth to the need of market segmentation. Life insurance being highly intangible in nature is much more complicated and difficult to be perceived than the physical or tangible products. Life insurance has a vast potential market all across the world and our nation. But, the changing socio- cultural dynamics of the population has posed great challenge in front of the life insurance service providers in identifying the needs properly and incorporating the solutions for the same in their products. The present study is a modest attempt to study some selected existing models of market segmentation related to life insurance and propose an easily perceivable and implementable model.

 Abstract

Hobsbawm, a Marxist and historian, was an ardent champion of revolution. He found that social change centres upon revolution, hence his important collection of essays and books cover all aspects of revolution such as the nature of anarchism, the history of communism, the influence of Marx and Lenin and class struggle. As revolution is the basis of social change, his writings are crucial for understanding twentieth century history truly.

 Abstract

Abstract The pursuit of optimal use of available resources is important to achieve the most considerable amount of returns. Time-driven activity-based costing (TDABC) offers great opportunities to enhance the quality of companies and outcomes while reducing costs. The innovation of Activity Based Costing (ABC) and, especially its newer variant, TDABC can be viewed as rediscovering this basic cost-accounting equation and applying it to all resources acquired and supplied by an organization. TDABC helps organisations to manage the resources efficiently in making and supplying the products to the customers at the lowest possible cost. Thus, when compared to traditional costing and ABC, TDABC helps the organisation in effective utilisation of resources and maximisation of its returns.

 Abstract

The Covid-19 Pandemic has resulted in extraordinary situations where global economies have been shut down using lockdown procedures to prevent the spread of this disease. Information has become the most valuable asset in the emerging world. Hence, information has become one of the major driving forces that lead a country towards sustainable development. While the libraries and other information centers are closed around the world, it could adversely affect the economy and general livelihood of the society. Libraries have responded to this extraordinary situation by offering their services online through digital access yet remaining closed to the public. The purpose of this short article is to discuss the issue of post pandemic re-opening of libraries and what measures they should be taking to prevent reinfection and spread of viral diseases like Covid-19.

 Abstract

The Municipal Corporation in India, like its counterpart the countryborough in England, is thehighest form of municipal government designedfor the administration of civic affairs of the topclass cities in the country.Municipal government in India has been in existence since the year1687with the formation of Madras Municipal Corporation and then Calcutta andBombayMunicipal Corporations in 1726. In 1850, the improvement inTowns Act was passed by thegovernment of India that established a systemof councilor and gave them administrativeauthority. Subsequently, LordMayo's Resolution of 1870 instituted the system of citymunicipalities andcalled for the introduction of an elected president of lead them. In 1882, Lord Ripon's Resolution of Local Self Government created the outline andstructure of Municipal Governance in India. In 1935 another Government ofIndia Act brought local government under the purview of the state orprovincial government and specific power were given.Municipal Corporation is the top and highest form of urban localgovernment as it enjoys comparatively more powers and autonomy in dayto-day administration. Unlike rural-localgovernment, urban localgovernment in India is not hierarchical. The municipal corporation as aninstitution is more respectable and enjoys a greater measure of autonomythan other forms oflocal government.

 Abstract

For electrical utilities, expectation from consumer about services has systematically increased in the sense of maintaining reliability & safety.Currently whenever a consumer or set of consumers experiences power disruption, they make a call to call -centres to address queries.SMS to consumer is being sent by Call Centers after generating no-supply status ticket. After getting feedback from Field Duty Engineer or LT Team for the concerned Zone, call center team issue communication to consumer & close the call /ticket. This paper describes the methodology adopted for direct communication to existing affected consumers while executing network operation as well as restoration of network. Methodology consist of integration of available systems viz GIS,SAP CRM & DMS which has reduced the cost to 1/10th of new market ready solutions of values as well as improvement in automation of computation of reliability indices.

 Abstract

In today's world, almost everything we do has been simplified by automated tasks. In an attempt to focus on the road while driving, drivers often miss out on signs on the side of the road, which could be dangerous for them and for the people around them. 85 percent of road accidents occur due to the drivers not being able to control or stop the car on time. So to prevent this we have come up with an idea of car crash prevention and detection and also detecting the road signs simultaneously. So, In our project, Traffic Sign Detection and recognition(TSDR) plays an important role here by detecting and recognizing a sign, thus notifying the driver through voice of any upcoming signs. TSDR application not only ensures road safety, but also allows the driver to be a little more at ease while driving on tricky roads. In car crash prevention and detection on normal roads we are going to implement a cheaper and easier way to stop accidents. For crash prevention we use ultrasonic sensors to detect and calculate the distance between cars to alert the driver using the LED and buzzer installed. Most of the time it has been seen that the injured person did not die from the injury suffered due to the accident but due to the late response from the emergency department. So, in crash detection we use GPS and GSM to locate the place of accident and alert the registered number about the accident.

 Abstract

Now society is giving much importance to achievement in various spheres which in turn throws the students into a world of stress. In this pandemic period everybody finds stress everywhere, whether it be within the family, school/educational environments, or any other social or economic sector. Students today are facing new challenges in education calling for greater effort to be put into them. Also, society demands students to perform various roles, which are unspecific and undefined, inconsistent and unachievable in the present socio-cultural, economic, and bureaucratic contexts of our society, causing heavy stress on students mainly from higher secondary schools. In the present study, the investigator made an attempt to find out the relationship between academic stress and peer pressure in the context of online learning of higher secondary school students. The study is conducted on 198 students studying in government and aided higher secondary schools in Kerala. Data required for the present study were collected through a survey. The standardized tools used for the study are the Scale of Academic Stress in the context of online learning (Bindu 2020) and the Scale of Peer Pressure in the context of online learning (Joy and Bindu 2020). The study found that there is a significant positive correlation between academic stress and peer pressure of higher secondary school students in the context of online learning. The reasons behind academic stress and peer pressure need to be identified and support to students may be provided when they are in need in the form of guidance and counseling. If needed academic scaffolding is also to be provided. The teachers should also be provided with sufficient in-service training to understand the problems of higher secondary school students during online teaching.
