A slum is a compact area that characterised by over population, poorly build congested dwelling conditions, unhygienic environment usually with inadequate infrastructure and lack of proper sanitary and drinking water facilities. Thus, the slum dwellers live under the most deplorable conditions with little access to effective social and health care services, water and sanitation facilities and they are more vulnerable to epidemics. Over 65 million people of the country are living in the slums and constitute about 17.40 per cent share of the total urban population (Census of India, 2011). The present study has conducted in a slum locality of Amritsar city of Punjab, India. The slum started developing in the city during the time of partition of the country when refugees from Pakistan illegally occupied land outside the walled city. Hindustani Basti is one of such slum localities that is located near the Lohgarh Gate of the walled city. The primary objective of this study is to acquire knowledge about the socio-demographic and economic status of the slum dwellers. Data has been collected in respect of age structure, income level, sex composition, migration, housing conditions, religion and family structure. Overall, the socio-economic status of the slum dwellers is quite low.

ABSTRACT The use of medicinal plants for the prevention and treatment of various ailments has been in practice from the time immemorial. Acacia arabica (Lam.) Willd. belonging to family Fabaceae has been reported to be effective against a variety of disease such as diabetes, hypertension, skin disorders and cancer. The plant has been mentioned by the name of Aqaqia or Ummeghilan in ancient Unani literature. Different parts of the plant viz., Gum, Bark, Leaves, Flowers, Seeds and Pods are used as medicine among various ethnic and rural societies. Gum acacia is the dried gummy exudate which is popularly known as Samgh arabi in traditional Unani medicine. The parts of the plant are considered as astringent, demulcent, emollient, aphrodisiac, haemostatic, anti-diarrhoeal with good nutritional value in Unani medicine. This communication is an attempt to compile and document information on different aspects of Acacia arabica mentioned in classical Unani as well as modern literature. The plant has been suggested to be taken up for further scientific investigations so as to validate the medicinal claims presented herein and to utilize its maximum therapeutic potential.

The detailed karyotypic analysis of Cicer arietinum H2K variety collected from Ranchi, Jharkhand was carried out to develop the karyotype of this variety to understand the possibilities of its use in genetic improvement of chickpea. It was observed to have diploid chromosome set (2n=16) with symmetrical karyotype. Such karyotype of the observed variety shows its primitive tendency which is considered to give rise to advance members with asymmetrical karyotype.

The construction industry persists in a massive over production of primary aggregates. This has caused over-exploitation of natural resources and serious under-utilization of recycled aggregates. At present, the possibility of replacement of natural aggregates by recycled aggregates is not utilized sufficiently due to insecurities over the properties possessed by these. The research focuses on replacement of natural coarse aggregates in concrete with manually crushed recycled aggregates. Properties of recycled aggregates were studied and the average mortar content adhered to their surface was determined experimentally. Based on this, the mix design was altered, reducing the volume of virgin mortar content. Strength tests were conducted and the most efficient replacement percentages were determined for higher grades.

This paper presents a brief documentation about concepts of Electroencephalography (EEG) and its one type of artifact i.e. Eye-Blink Artifact. This is one form of Ocular Artifact. To study brain functioning and problems if any, Neurologists uses Electroencephalography technique. But while recording brain signals, noise (Artifact) gets induced and became part of EEG recording. This creates problems for Nero Experts to analyze and interpret it and hence it is necessary to remove such artifact from recordings. Ocular artifact related to Eye movement is in existence which may also resemble to disordered pattern. One can detect and remove this using Wavelet Function available. Sub sampling and multi resolution analysis of signal is the key idea for identifying typical trendy pattern of required frequency band and nullifying their impact. One may get sufficient information about analysis and componentsof the original signal using Discrete Wavelet Transform.MODWT, IMODWT and MODWTMRA are the DiscreteWavelet functions used to localize required pattern and remove that from the signal.

Now a days the railway accidents are increasing mainly due to cracks on the track.Previously a number of methods had been proposed to reduce these accidents in which all of them were complex and expensive. We designed a new simple and cheaper method to avoid the previously proposed methods. We used a voltage sensor, aurdino board, GSM module and a buzzer. Whenever there is a crack ,the flow of voltage becomes nullified as there is a discontinuity made by that crack. As the voltage sensor is on its duty to measure the voltage along the track continuously the discontinuity(crack) is measured as zero volts. As soon as the crack is identified an immediate message will be send to the loco-pilot through the GSM module with exact location by means of GPS.

ABSTRACT: Indoor Plants as an element of landscape when systematically planned and arranged can beneficially and favorably affect micro-climate inside the industry. The effort is with the purpose to beneficially and favorably control the micro-climate to enhance the productivity as well as sound health condition of the workers. To validate this hypothesis experiments were conducted simultaneously within three industries by adopting the varying density of indoor plants for specific gaseous pollutants. In this process the focus was to achieve the reduction of indoor temperature with the change in density of indoor plants. The results obtained have shown encouraging outcome and simultaneously put forward in comparative analysis of results in three industries. This methodology when properly designed planned and executed besides mitigating micro-climate can further be adopted in creating conducive work environment as well as increase productivity.

Big data contains large data sets that are so voluminous and complex that traditional data processing applications are inadequate to deal with them. Big data challenges include capturing data, data storage, data analysis, search, sharing, transfer, visualization, querying, updating. The first five important dimensions to big data are characterized as: Volume, Variety, Velocity, veracity and volatile. Big data is generated from multiple sources like social networking sites, sensors, pdf documents. As the big data generated from multiple sources, it is heterogeneous in nature. Big data includes structured, unstructured and semi-structured data. For analyzing the structured data we have Traditional Data Base Management (TDBM). Traditional data bases are inadequate to maintain unstructured and semi-structured. To manage semi-structured data NoSql (Structured Query Language) data bases can be used. Before performing analytics the data should be captured from multiple resources, which is one of the major challenge. Data Scraping is a technique that extracts desired data from big data sources. Big data can be abstracted or scraped by using JSOUP (Third party libraries in Java), web crawlers. The scraped data can automatically loaded to hive engine with the help of flume tool. So in this project we are going to capture big data from various big data sources and then perform analytics on the data which have been scraped from multiple sources.
