 Abstract

Brain injury is a problem faced by many neurosurgeons and is a major cause of disability, death and requires high costs to treat in Indonesia. Neurological damage in brain injury does not only occur at the time of impact injury, but develops in the hours and days that follow due to secondary brain injury. The mechanisms of secondary brain injury include oxygen free radicals, neuroinflammation, brain edema, and brain cell death. Kencur extract has antioxidant potential with total phenolic and flavonoid content including luteolin apigenin and is expected to reduce MDA expression. This study is an experimental laboratory with simple random sampling so that the experimental animals, experimental sites and research materials are homogeneous. The treatment of all samples was carried out simultaneously using post-test only control group design which allowed researchers to measure the effect of treatment on the experimental group by comparing the experimental group with the control group. Based on the ANOVA test, the significance value of the Kencur extract treatment group was 0.000 (p<0.05) indicating that there was a difference in MDA expression in brain-injured rats without kencur extract with brain-injured rats and given kencur extract. The 24-hour and 48-hour time groups, a significance value of 0.488 (p> 0.05) showed no significant difference in MDA expression. Then the Kencur extract treatment group with a time group of 0.117 (p> 0.05) showed no significant difference in MDA expression. There was a significant difference in the expression of MDA in brain injured rats without kencur extract with brain injured rats and given kencur extract. There were no significant differences in the MDA expression in the 24-hour and 48-hour time groups and the Kencur extract treatment group and the 24-hour and 48-hour time groups.

Public Library is a social institution with advancement of civilized literate society. The history of the evolution and growth of libraries is an essential chapter in history of the intellectual development of human beings. From the ancient period, India had library, there is evidence of well managed library in 6th Century AD, the Nalanda and Taxila University had library with huge collections of books. Like the ancient period, we also find evidences of library in medieval period of Indian history; Mughal Emperors like Babur, Humayan, Akbar are some examples who had established libraries. In real sense the development libraries in India begun from the British rule, the British Government took many initiatives for the development of public library in India. In post-independence period, Government and various non-government organizations play a significant role for the establishment of the Public Library in India. This paper is an attempt to trace the history of the growth and development of Public Libraries in India in post-independence period. This paper examines the various schemes, policies and steps taken by the Government of India for the spread of Public Library system in all over India and also discusses the circumstances which led to the development of the Public Library system in post-independent India.

 Abstract

Background: Previous study has evaluated the impact of breathing in relation to abdominal exercises in young and healthy males. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate whether, as compared with a training protocol of common core exercises, these exercises plus breathing exercises particularly diaphragmatic breathing would more greatly enhance abdominal fitness, and respiratory function in young healthy females. Materials and Methods: A total of 30 young healthy females were screened for the study as per the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The subjects were conveniently divided into 3 group. Each group comprised of 10 subjects each. Experimental Group 1 (EG1) performed core exercises with diaphragmatic breathing, Experimental Group 2 (EG2) performed only core exercises and Control Group (CG) was not given any kind of exercises during 6 weeks. Pre and post data was collected in terms of Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) and ACSM curl-up (cadence) test after 6 weeks in all the three group. Results were tested for normal distribution using a Shapiro-Wilk test. One-way ANOVA tests were used to measure differences in PFT variables, ACSM curl-up test scores, between groups. A dependent-measure t-test was used to determine pre- and post-test differences within the groups. Confidence interval was set at 95% and any value <0.05 was considered as significant and <0.001 as highly significant. Results: Significant changes in ACSM curl-up test scores, and all pulmonary parameters were recorded in the experimental groups: EG1 and EG2 at the post-training assessment, whereas in the control group, no significant differences over baseline were observed in any parameters. Conclusion: Core exercises with diaphragmatic breathing is more effective in improving pulmonary function and abdominal endurance in young healthy females.

 Abstract

In every country traditional medicine find foundation in magical or religious belief and considered as safe and free from undesirable side effect. Herbal products are not evaluated for purity and consistency of active constituent they also contain some contaminant. With the increased use of herbal products, the safety and efficacy of herbal medicine are being questioned. Recently some herbs show toxicity such as Glycyrrhizin glabra Linn, Ginkgo biloba, Panax ginseng, Allium sativum, and more herb. Adverse health effects linked to herbal products could be related to both the inevitable harmful effects of medicinal herbs and toxicities caused by adulterants/contaminants. The lot of evidence regarding the side effects of herbal medicine has emphasized the requirement for and importance of toxicity studies for herbal products. Toxicology plays a major role in the development of herbal medicines. Thus the safety criteria are important in development of herbal medicine for saving life of human. The present review focused on need of toxicological study and safety of herbal drug prior to used. The toxicity studies need to be done even plant have long history of drug usage or do not have any documented toxicity so they can lead some unrelated toxicity especially during long term treatment for chronic condition or when used as food supplement.
