 Abstract

The quality of higher education is closely linked to the professional qualification and ethical orientation of teachers, particularly in regions where institutional development varies widely. This study analytically explores the professional qualifications, ethical practices, and performance standards of teachers working in selected Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) of Nagaon district, Assam. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from faculty members across government and private colleges to assess their academic preparation, pedagogical competencies, adherence to institutional ethics, and awareness of professional codes of conduct. The analysis reveals notable variations in teachers' qualifications, exposure to professional development Programmes, and their understanding of ethical responsibilities within institutional settings. While most respondents demonstrated adequate academic credentials, the study found disparities in continuous professional development and inconsistent application of ethical principles such as accountability, transparency, fairness, and student-centric conduct. The findings highlight the need for structured faculty development initiatives, stronger institutional monitoring mechanisms, and the integration of ethical training in professional development frameworks. The study concludes that strengthening teachers' qualifications and ethical awareness is essential for enhancing the overall quality, credibility, and governance of higher education in Assam.

 Abstract

Abstract Quality assurance has emerged as a central priority for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across India, particularly in the context of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) framework. In the North-East Indian (NEI) region, and more specifically in the state of Assam, institutions of higher learning encounter diverse academic, administrative, infrastructural and socio-cultural challenges while preparing for and undergoing NAAC accreditation. This study critically examines the barriers experienced by HEIs in Assam in their efforts to comply with the prescribed NAAC criteria on curriculum development, teaching-learning processes, research and extension, institutional governance, learner support services and overall quality enhancement. It identifies constraints such as limited funding, inadequate digital infrastructure, shortage of faculty with research competency, insufficient documentation culture, and low stakeholder awareness of quality benchmarks. The analysis further reveals that geographical remoteness, disparities in resource allocation and administrative delays create additional layers of difficulty for institutions in the NEI region. The findings highlight the need for capacity-building programmes, robust internal quality assurance mechanisms, strengthened leadership and collaborative regional support to improve NAAC preparedness among HEIs. The outcomes of the study contribute to policy formulation and institutional planning aimed at upgrading higher education standards in Assam and the wider Northeast region.

 Abstract

Malda is very famous for mango (Mangifera indica L.) production based on suitable conditions of soil. Mango has long been a major agricultural product in the district. In this paper, analysis has been made on suitable soil condition sustaining mango productivity based on soil textural analysis by sieve method and secondary data. (Comprehensive District Agricultural Plan (C-DAP) -Malda prepared by NABCONS- XIth Plan Period). Soil textural analysis for cultivation of mango has been computed between block wise mango productivity and different soils. The soil type of the district is predominantly sandy (9225 ha.), sandy loam (21430 ha), loam (8013 ha.), sandy clay loam (38780 ha), clay loam (14500ha.) and clay (71563ha) (NBSS-LUP). Three physiographic regions can be identified in the Malda District: Barind, Diara and Tal. The Barind soil of this tract is red in colour implying old alluvium formation. It is composed of still clay containing iron. The soil in this tract is mostly acidic and micro-nutrient deficient. These soils, therefore, result into low to medium mango productivity in the district. In the Diara Region, the soil is sandy clay loam called do-ash. This region is most fertile part of the district, possessing higher to medium mango productivity. The soil of Tal region is old alluvium with shallow black colour and the mango productivity of this region is medium to higher productivity. For this purpose, sample villages (Mouza) were selected from different physiographic as well as different soil suitability for mango cultivation an intensive field-based study. Block wise grid-based soil samples from Mango orchard fields have been collected and analyzed in the laboratory for extracting soil parameter mainly in soil texture. The final part of the paper deals with correlation between soil texture and mango production in this district. The results show that the area for mango cultivation can be turned into highly productive zone through integrated nutrient management practices including leguminous intercrops or cover crops.

 Abstract

The late teen and early youth years are generally regarded as the most fun times in a person's life since they are free from significant responsibilities and are healthy enough to engage in a wide range of entertaining activities. A traditional perception of a college-bound student is that of someone who enjoys a variety of recreational activities, is constantly surrounded by friends, and interacts with parents as little as possible. The general public perception of a college student's life does not include anything depressing or gloomy. The reality, though, is considerably different because people in this age category engage in a variety of dangerous behaviors, including drinking, and drug usage, which raises enough concerns to challenge the widespread belief that being youthful equates to happiness. Young college students experience stress for a variety of reasons, including peer pressure, sadness, drug addiction, and other issues. The goal of this study is to determine whether or not these young college students receive social assistance from friends, family or other acquaintances in times of need. Depression is often characterized by an unhappy mood and is defined as a disease of detachment and isolation. It is crucial to understand the feelings of persons who are afflicted with this illness. However, depression is not defined here as a psychiatric disorder, that is, as something that a person is born with. Instead, it was demonstrated that this disease resulted from various interactions with members of one's social system. Considering this and to understand the problems that these young college students face the present study tries to highlight the social variables that contributes stress, anxiety, depression in them and do they get social support from their family, friends, relatives or any other.

The issue of criminal liability and mental illness is still a unsolved problem of criminal jurisprudence. Despite being various literature on various facets of this theme, many ideas are seen to exists in justification or explanation of the intensity under controversy. It however presents a problematic thing which deserve to careful analysis. This paper is proposed to examine the following aspects of The defence of insanity in Indian criminal law : Defence of insanity in Hindu and Muslim systems of legal juris-Prudence and modern attempts at codification culminating In section 84 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. A review of the MacNaghten Rules to show the extent of their inclusion in the Indian Penal Cod alongwith the examination of the judicial interpretation and numerous case-law of over a time, with a multiple of fact situations, to determine the extent and scope of defence of insanity as available under this section. A discussion of some adjoining problems--like the problem of Burden of proof and its quantum--in relation to the defence of insanity. Shortcomings of the law of insanity and some suggestions for Its adaptation to reflect modern advances in medico- Psychic knowledge.

 Abstract

Butterflies are one of the most conspicuous species of earth's biodiversity. Being extremely responsive to any changes in their environment, namely, temperature, humidity, light, and rainfall patterns, these insects are identified as useful bioindicators. Sacred grove represents a traditional form of community-based conservation. The biodiversity rich sacred groves are of immense ecological significance. The present study was conducted to estimate the diversity and occurrence of butterfly community of a scared grove in Nattika, a coastal region of Thrissur district, Kerala, India. Data collection was done by transect counting method and species relative abundance was also calculated. In Sacred grove of Nattika, 28 species of butterfly belonging to 4 different families- Nymphalidae, Pieridae, Papilionidae and Lycaenidae were recorded. Family Nymphalidae recorded dominant with 13 species, 512 individuals and Junonia atlites being highest in number and the least number of species was observed in family Lycaenidae.

 Abstract

Recent advancements in digital signal processing technology have facilitated the utilization of digital microprocessors for the regulation of grid-connected inverters. Nonetheless, the digital manifestation is hindered by phase lag resulting from temporal delays. This phase lag evaluates the stability and resilience of the inverter controller. This study offers a comprehensive assessment of time-delay compensation methodologies for both model-free and model-based inverter controllers in the context of grid connections. MF methodologies predominantly employ proportional-integral and proportional resonance controllers, alongside various strategies aimed at mitigating time delay. In the interim, this study delineates the control strategies most frequently employed by MB, encompassing the Smith predictor and the modified Smith predictor. A comprehensive summary of various analogous strategies from the literature aimed at minimizing delays is presented, alongside a thorough examination of the notable issues related to the MF and MB procedures. Ultimately, this study presents a hypothesis regarding the most favorable approach at present and suggests a hybrid technique that integrates the MF and MB procedures, thereby offering readers a direction for future inquiry.
