The rise of democratic institutions and egalitarian values in the twentieth century had to face lot of challenges and contradictions in India due to the unique features of the society based on principles that were in deep conflict with egalitarian values. Disparities between superior social groups and a large majority of the population living in conditions of disadvantage and disabilities were historically pervasive in Indian society. A major reason for the disadvantageous position of these groups was their status ascribed to them by birth in certain castes, creeds and tribal groups. Indian society was made of a multitude of relatively closed status groups, with unequal ranks, each with its own privileges and disabilities supported by traditional sanction. This article reviews the role of association and organizations in the struggle for freedom in north Karnataka.

An attempt is made in this paper is to analyse the backward class movement in Karnataka, its effects on Indian society. Due to the negative implications of caste system backward class movement arises. The caste system in India creates a bundle of social problems as a few castes are deliberate as greater to others. The social distinctions on the foundation of the caste system have been perpetuating because of the long tradition in giving significance to castes. There are violence and terrorism as people belonging to one caste attack people belonging to another caste. Backward Caste/class movements emerged among depressed castes and deprived sections of society in different parts of India with the broadening of the national movement.

Civil engineering structures such as building must have sufficient safety margin under dynamic loading like earthquake. The dynamic performance of a RCC building can be determined accurately that requires appropriate modelling considering foundation-soil, building-foundation and soil interactions. Building-foundation-soil interactions are complex phenomena requiring advanced mathematical and numerical modelling. The soil-structure interaction plays an important role particularly when subjected to seismic excitation, due to the potentially disastrous consequences of a seismic event. In the present work effectiveness of modelling in software for determination of seismic behavior of the medium rise building over raft considering soil flexibility interaction is studied. Modal analysis of building system is carried out in software. For the analysis, three dimensional multiple bays regular RC building model for eight storeys is considered and the soil beneath the structure is modelled as equivalent soil springs connected to the raft foundation. The response spectrum analysis of the soil-structure model was carried out using the general software STAAD.Pro. In both the cases (fixed base and flexible base) of modelling the structure, the earthquake records have been scaled according to the Indian Standard 1893-2002 for each type of soil (i.e. I, II & III) and applied to the ordinary moment resisting frame with seismic zone III, zone IV and zone V.

Agricultural Produce Market Committee: Marketing and trade, as an activity, are at the end of the value chain for any commodity, but they are the most essential determinant of all other activities. At this level, all labour, material, and capital input expenses are compensated, which must include some incentive above and beyond inputs. In a developing country, agricultural products are in constant demand throughout the year, despite the fact that most of them are produced only during certain times of the year, this causes price fluctuations, which can alter profit equations for farmers. All regional markets are being integrated into both parties benefit from a nationwide market. Farmers and customers Farmers will benefit. Rewarding prices even when there is little demand in their area, on the other side, if there isn't when a state produces less, the consumer will still be able to obtain things at reasonable pricing.

The influence of SES on postmenopausal 40 rural women was studied during 2015. The women who attained menopause and belonging to 35-55 years age range were selected from 4 villages of 2 talukas of Dharwad District. The postmenopausal symptoms were measured by using Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) developed by Barlin. (1992) with 11 items. The responses on each item was scored as 0-4 as none to very severe. MRS was categorized as low (0-14), medium (15-29) and high (30-44) further it was divided into somatic, psychological and urinary symptoms. The Socio Economic Status (SES) of family was assessed by using Socio Economic Status scale developed by Agarwal et al. (2005). Correlation was used to assess the relationship between SES and postmenopausal problems. Results revealed that in case of SES majority (63%) fell under lower middle, while 20% of them were poor and 16% in upper middle category. It was noted that 75% of women completed education upto primary level and 25% of them not attended the school. While with regard to MRS majority of women (63%) faced somatic problems, while 26% of them showed psychological problems and only 10% had urinary problems. There was a positive and highly significant relationship between SES and postmenopausal problems thus indicating that SES influenced the menopausal problems. Hence there is a need for empowerment of women economically and educationally so that they will take care of postmenopausal health

Background: Smoking causes decrease in lung function test and smokers develop respiratory impairment. Hence an effect of smoking on PEFR and absolute eosinophil count is studied. Method: 60 male and 30 female smokers aged between 25 to 40 years were studied. Apart from routine blood examination Absolute eosinophilia count was studied in each patient, spirometer was used to record peak expiratory flow rate. Results: Heart rate, SBP, DBP, PEFR and absolute Eosinophilic count were compared in both sexes and observed significant P value (p<0.001) in every parameters. The correlation of mean values between heart rate and PFR, PEFR and Eosinophilic, count, PEFR and SBP, PEFR and DBP had also significant differences in both sexes. Conclusion: This comparative study between PEFR and Absolute eosinophilia in both sexes will help the Pathologist, physician to treat such smokers efficiently so that they can regain their health and lead normal life by avoiding smoking.

The Boey score is the most commonly used scoring system for risk stratification because of its simplicity and high predictive value for mortality and morbidity in cases of gastric perforation. This score is widely used in daily practice because it only assesses 3 assessment components; namely the onset of perforation, shock at first admission, and comorbid disease; which is easy to do and has a fairly good accuracy. In Boey score 2, the mortality rate is still high, so research on the factors that most influence mortality at Boey Score 2 needs to be done. This study uses secondary data from medical records of patients who meet criteria of inclusion and exclusion. This study is a comparative test using a cohort analytic observational study design (longitudinal retrospective), comparing the components of the Boey score which is the most influential in predicting the mortality rate in gastric perforated patients. Boey score 1 and Boey score 2 at RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. A total of 65 subject were included in this study, consisted of 43 men (66.2%) and 22 women (33.8%). We found 16 patients (24.6%) with Boey score 1 and 49 patients (75.4%) with a Boey score 2. From the Boey score component, 49 patients (75.4%) were obtained with the onset of perforation> 24 hours, 31 patients (50.8%) with preoperative shock, and 34 patients (52.3%) with comorbidities. Comorbidities in study subjects included hypertension in 17 patients (26.2%), diabetes mellitus in 4 patients (6.2%), heart disease in 4 patients (6.2%), lung disease in 5 patients (7.7%), and kidney disease in 7 patients (10.8%). Shock is the most dominant Boey Score predictability factor that affects the mortality rate in gastric perforation patients with Boey score 1 and Boey score 2.
