 Abstract

The play The Lion and the Jewel, written by Wole Soyinka depicts the Yaruba culture of Nigerian society. The play is about the African community, its cultural and custom richness. Many ceremonies, traditional festivals and customs are presented in the play that is rich with proverbs, metaphors, legends, myths, and taboos. The play mainly speaks about the roles of women. Most of the society in Africa is patriarchal. They give more importance and roles on the male much more than the female. Women had to struggle with the notion of double colonization. Double colonization is coined by Ketu Katrak, referring to the notion that women in formerly colonized societies were doubly colonized by both imperial and patriarchal ideologies became a catch-phrase of postcolonial and feminist discourses in the 1980s (in Ashcroft, 1996:240). This condition leads to the more complex, struggle and movement of women. Women have been suppressed, harassed and exploited by male dominated society. The playwright brings the pathetic condition of women of Nigerian society on the stage. Their Each and every attempt to escape from the clutches of male supremacy ends in vain. Men, the center of the society holds all power. They treat women as things and never let them enjoy their freedom. This paper is an attempt to discuss the status of subjugated women as depicted in the play.

 Abstract

Historical photographs often exhibit various degrees of deterioration, preserving invaluable visual records of the past. Traditional restoration techniques relying on mathematical equations or thermal diffusion struggle to address the complexity of these images. However, the advent of deep learning has revolutionized the field of image restoration. This study explores the application of deep neural network-based techniques to restore aging photographs, aiming to enhance the quality of results and broaden the scope of restoration possibilities. In this research, we delve into the historical significance of image restoration, tracing its evolution and importance in preserving our visual heritage. We introduce a novel deep learning-based model that harnesses the power of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and generative adversarial networks (GANs) to breathe new life into vintage photographs. This model incorporates state-of-the-art techniques, including super-resolution and noise reduction, to achieve remarkable restoration results.Furthermore, we provide insights into the architectural design, training methodologies, and the fine-tuning of our deep learning model, highlighting its ability to adapt to diverse degradation patterns commonly found in historical photos. We discuss the concept of transfer learning, which leverages pre-trained neural networks to improve restoration accuracy. To add a touch of creativity, we explore the incorporation of design borders that complement the era of the restored photographs, enhancing their visual appeal and historical authenticity. In this work not only contributes to the field of deep learning-based image restoration but also underscores the importance of preserving our cultural heritage through innovative technologies. By offering a comprehensive approach to the revitalization of vintage images, we aim to unlock new avenues for exploring the past and celebrating our shared history.

 Abstract

Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world. Due to its potential to cause permanent vision loss, it is important to understand how systemic conditions and their respective treatments can be associated with or increase the risk for developing glaucoma. In this review, we examined the literature for up-to-date discussions and provided commentary on glaucoma, its pathophysiology, and associated risk factors. We discuss systemic diseases and the impact, risk, and mechanism for developing glaucoma, including pharmacologically induced glaucoma; inflammatory and auto-immune conditions; infectious, dermatologic, cardiovascular, pulmonary, renal, urologic, neurologic, psychiatric and systemic malignancies: intraocular tumors; as well as pediatric, and genetic conditions. The goal of our discussion of systemic conditions including their commonality, mechanisms, treatments, and associations with developing glaucoma is to emphasize the importance of ocular examinations and follow-up with the multidisciplinary teams involved in the care of each patient to prevent unnecessary vision-loss.

 Abstract

Background: Patient satisfaction in the measure of quality of care in a health care setting. According to existing statistics, it reflected that the number of post-operative care unit patients is steadily increasing Measuring the level of patient satisfaction with nursing care is an important determinant to evaluate whether patients’ needs and expectations are fulfilled which can help nurses to plan appropriate nursing interventions for the patients. The present study was conducted with the aim to assess the level of satisfaction regarding nursing care among patients in post - operative care units of a selected hospital of New Delhi. The study was guided by Donabedian model. The objectives of the study were 1. To assess the level of satisfaction among patients regarding nursing care who are admitted in post-operative care units. 2. To seek association between level of satisfaction among patients with the selected demographic variables. Material and Methods: Using cross sectional design, the study was conducted in the month of January 2022. Fifty patients of age group 18-60 admitted in general abdominal post-operative units of Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, Delhi were selected by purposive sampling technique. A pre-validated patient satisfaction assessment inventory questionnaire was used for the assessment of level of patient satisfaction to nursing services. The score of the questionnaire ranged between 25-100. Results: Data was analysed and interpreted using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Most of the study subjects 30(60%) were satisfied, 17(34%) were extremely satisfied and only 3(6%) were dissatisfied with nursing services. There was no signification Conclusion: The study concludes that the study subjects of post-operative care units were just satisfied with nursing care and their satisfaction was found to be more in the domain of nursing care followed by provision of privacy and then to nurses’ communication & information.

 Abstract

Facial expression recognition is a rapidly growing field within pattern recognition and computer vision, finding applications in diverse areas such as artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction and security monitoring. Its significance has increased in recent years due to its potential in various domains. The project investigates the effectiveness of pretrained CNN model weights for facial expression (FER) and explores their potential for emotion based recommendations. By transferring learned weights from a pretrained CNN model trained on a large-scale FER dataset, the model chives improved accuracy and efficiency. Fine tuning with a smaller FER dataset further enhances adaptability.
