 Abstract

Abstract: This research paper delves into the intricate language experiences encountered by migrant populations, emphasizing the multifaceted challenges of language barriers, adaptive strategies, and the preservation of heritage languages. As globalization continues to facilitate increased migration, the linguistic dynamics within migrant communities become pivotal aspects of their integration and cultural identity. The primary focus lies in dissecting the obstacles presented by language barriers that hinder effective communication and societal participation. This investigation encompasses an exploration of the psychological and socio-cultural impacts of such barriers on migrants, examining the struggles they face in accessing education, employment, healthcare, and social integration due to linguistic disparities. Furthermore, the study investigates adaptive mechanisms employed by migrant populations to navigate these linguistic challenges. It delves into the strategies individuals and communities adopt to learn the dominant language of the host country, analysing factors such as language learning methods, acculturation processes, and the role of social networks in facilitating linguistic adaptation. A crucial aspect of this research involves examining the preservation and maintenance of heritage languages among migrant communities. It scrutinizes the significance of heritage languages as a means of cultural preservation and identity maintenance, exploring the factors influencing language retention, language shift, and the intergenerational transmission of languages within migrant families. Employing a mixed-methods approach encompassing qualitative interviews, surveys, and linguistic analysis, this study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the intricate linguistic experiences of migrant populations. The findings aim to shed light on effective policies and interventions that can support language diversity, facilitate smoother integration, and foster inclusive societies for migrant communities in diverse socio-cultural contexts.

 Abstract

Abstract: "Illegal Migrants" the term is used as a code to mean 'Bangladeshi' in Assam and the words are used interchangeably. The influx of illegal migrants from Bangladesh into Assam is so high that changes demographic pattern of the State, which threatens to reduce the Assamese people to a minority in our own State, as happened in Tripura and Sikkim. Illegal migration from Bangladesh into Assam should be viewed against the backdrop of past history, present realities and future designs. Migration into Assam has been taking place from the dawn of history. Numbers of causes are there which are responsible for the migration of Assam. In this paper an attempt has been made to examine various aspects of illegal migration into Assam from various countries especially from Bangladesh. In this study we find that mainly environmental crisis caused by population pressure in Bangladesh and relatively greater economic opportunities in terms of higher lifetime income, acquisition of land and assets in Assam, have been the primary motivations behind large scale migration. There are some beneficial effects, such as the immigrants have contributed to the rise of agricultural productivity by introducing better techniques, crop diversity, and multiple cropping and also the immigrants causes the supply of cheap labor in the informal labor market have benefitted the consumers and producers alike. However, they have put tremendous pressure on land, creating socio-political and environmental problems that have indirect adverse effects on the economy. Finally, the immigrants hardly contribute to the government revenue while the government spends a substantial amount to maintain this significantly large fraction of the population.

 Abstract

The Indian textile industry stands out on a global scale due to its abundant raw material resources and extensive manufacturing capabilities. Apart from being a cornerstone of the economy, the textile sector, in conjunction with other major industries, makes noteworthy contributions. Notably, the exports of textiles and apparel alone constitute approximately 27% of the nation's total foreign exchange earnings. This study focuses on the socio-economic status of textile employees with the overarching objectives of identifying measures to improve health and productivity, ultimately contributing to increased job satisfaction. The research emphasizes the critical need for proactive interventions to enhance the overall well-being of workers in the textile industry. The findings highlight the significance of adopting a holistic approach that addresses both physical and mental health aspects. Key measures include the implementation of wellness programs, ergonomic improvements, and health education initiatives, which emerged as crucial factors in fostering a healthier work environment. Prioritizing employee health not only leads to a reduction in absenteeism and healthcare costs but also contributes to cultivating a positive organizational culture.

 Abstract

Abstract: Water is an essential resource for human survival. With the increase of water consumption, water quality is facing severe challenges. Industrialization, agricultural production, and urban life have resulted in the degradation and pollution of the environment, adversely affecting the water bodies necessary for life, ultimately affecting human health and sustainable social development. Globally, an estimated 80% of industrial and municipal wastewater is discharged into the environment without any prior treatment, with adverse effects on human health and ecosystems. This proportion is higher in the least developed countries, where sanitation and wastewater treatment facilities are severely lacking.

 Abstract

Nigerians are known to contribute greatly across various disciplines and continents in the globe with prominent contributions in the provision of skilled healthcare services in the United Kingdom and United States of America. Despite this exploit abroad, the medical industry in Nigeria which was at the transition stage is currently becoming comatose and therefore needs immediate transformation to meet up with the rising population who struggle to access quality healthcare services in the nation. This review provides pertinent information on medical industrialization with emphasis on the successes made, challenges encountered, and solutions needed to improve various specialties in nephrology, cardiology and surgery in the area of renal replacement therapy, open heart surgery, organ transplant, myomectomy, hip and knee replacement and plastic surgery in Nigeria. A review of several articles was done, and findings articulated into major thematic areas. The review showed various successes which include successful conduct of renal transplant in St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos in 2000 with several government and private renal centres springing up, successful conduct of open heart surgery as far back as 1974 in University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu with new centres also springing up, routine and successful conduct of myomectomy for fibroid in several teaching hospitals and private health centres across the nation. The challenges encountered include the ongoing brain drain, high cost and lack of some modern medicine for management of transplants, lack of state of art medical equipment, high cost of treatment and care for most Nigerians with diverse conditions and a preference for medical care and treatment abroad by the elites. There is urgent need for government to partner with private individuals including the diaspora community and foreign nationals who are willing to invest into healthcare in Nigeria to scale up efforts needed for medical industrialization in the country. The government need to take proactive measures to convert brain drain to brain gain through appropriate policies, stakeholder engagement, incentives and strong marketing of the successes made in the country which is aimed to promote local contents in the country. A strong political will expressed as government adequate investment into health and subsidy of these procedures for indigent Nigerians will help to bring about the desired medical industrialization in the country.

 Abstract

The contaminated soil with heavy metals has become concern for agricultural scientists because of the progress made in agricultural product safety. Heavy metals are metalloids with the biological toxicity. The most common are arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, mercury, lead and zinc. These metals exist throughout the terrestrial environment and produced from the anthropogenic and natural activities. Recently, landfills have been reported as persecutor to soil contamination, but still, there is not promising way proposed for the waste disposal management in some developing countries. This is a biggest threat to the soil, crops, and the communities living around the dumpsites. Soil polluted with heavy metals result in the human health risks, groundwater pollution, plant phytotoxicity and decline in crop and soil production. The absorption of heavy metals through plant roots is major pathway in which heavy metals penetrate the food chain and their successive crowding along the food chain is a critical threat to the animal and human health. The previous findings reported that soil, vegetables, and other food crops around dumpsites are contaminated with the heavy metals. Therefore, there is an urgent need for continuous monitoring of the heavy metals in different open dumpsites. The necessary measures to reduce the high concentration of the heavy metals in the soil and crops should be put in place. This paper aimed to review harmful impacts of heavy metals contamination to soil and crops grown in vicinity of the dumpsites, but also several techniques treating heavy metals pollution in the soil were discussed in this review.

 Abstract

In the discipline of Natural Language Processing (NLP), sentiment analysis is an essential task that involves evaluating and analysing user opinion data on a given subject. Many deep learning models, including the recently announced Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) model, have been created to tacklethis difficulty. For the sentiment analysis task, we use datasets of Vietnamese reviews to test two BERT fine-tuning strategies in this study: Two methods are available: 1) one that feeds the [CLS] token alone into an associated feed-forward neural network; 2) another that uses all BERT output vectors as the input for classification. Experimental results on two datasets show that models utilising BERT perform models utilising Glove and Fast Text by a small margin
