CULTURAL HERITAGE AND TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN J&K SAPANA SHARMA Ph.D Research Scholar ABSTRACT Cultural heritage is an expression of the ways of living developed by a community and passed on from generation to generation, including customs, practices, places, objects, artistic expressions and values. Cultural heritage is often expressed as intangible or tangible cultural heritage (ICOMOS,2002) . As a part of human activity cultural heritage produces tangible representations of the value systems, beliefs, traditions and life styles. As an essential part of culture as a whole,cultural heritage, contains these visible and tangible traces from antiquity to the recent past. Culture of J&K is vivid and very popular in the world. Tourists from various parts of world visits and enjoy the famous places of J&K. Multifaceted activities of tourism provides wonderful experience to the tourists .Tourism brings economic prosperity and social understanding and acculturation among the various parts of world.
