Herbal medicines represent one of the most important fields of traditional medicine all over the world. Herbal medicines are being used by about 80% of the world population primarily in the developing countries for primary health care. Tinospora cordifolia is a popular medicinal plant which is used in several traditional medicines to cure various diseases such as jaundice, rheumatism, urinary disorder, skin diseases, diabetes, anemia, inflammation, allergic condition, anti-periodic, radio protective properties, etc. In the present study an attempt has been made to evaluate the phytochemical constituents (phenols, tannins, glycosides, steroids, alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, amino acids, protein and carbohydrates) present in Tinospora cordifolia using standard methods. Separation of plant pigments and secondary metabolites was done using the quantitative methods such as TLC and HPTLC. Antioxidant, Anti diabetic, anti-inflammatory activity was checked using different solvents.
