Abstract
To preserve and manage the environment, ecological indicators can be used to
monitor ecosystems. A chosen few species or groups of species can be used as
proxies for more general trends because it is impractical to monitor every component
of an ecosystem. The biological components chosen for this function are known as
bioindicators. Bioindicators are creatures that are used to keep an eye on the
environment's health, the presence of pollution and how it affects ecosystems, the
development of environmental cleanup efforts and the testing of new substances, as well as to spot changes in the environment's natural features.
