  Abstract


Nurses serve their communities in many ways and have essential roles in healthcare. Nurses promote healthy lifestyles, advocate for patients, provide health education, and directly care for many patients. The exact functions of nurses have changed somewhat over the years; however, their importance in healthcare remains evident. Challenges in Nursing: Today, Challenges in nursing have changed over time, but the career itself remains true to those who are motivated to serve others. Today, nursing is a vast and varied field, with a multitude of opportunities for those considering it as a career choice. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM A study to assess the factors influencing nurse absenteeism among staff nurses at SMVMCH, Puducherry. OBJECTIVES o To assess the factors influencing nurse absenteeism among staff nurses o To associate the factors influencing absenteeism among staff nurses with their selected demographic variables. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY A descriptive research design was conducted among staff nurses working in ward settings at SMVMCH, Puducherry. A hospital-based study of assess the factors influencing nurse absenteeism among staff nurses was conducted over 30 staff nurses by convenient sampling using self-structured rating scale and completing the checklist in 15 minutes. The data collection period was one week. The data gathered and analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics method and interpretations were made on the basis of the objectives of the study. MAJOR FINDINGS IN THE STUDY: o The analysis of the data were organized and presented under the following aspect. o Findings reveals that, there are 30 questions in self-structured rating scale, 10% of nurses takes more absentees, 76.7 were moderately absentees and 13.3% having less absentees. o The study was conducted the association of level of among staff nurses with their selected demographic variables. o The demographic variable had shown statistically significant association of level of absenteeism with their selected demographic variables such as marital status and family structure. RESULT The finding reveals the Chi-square test reveals that there is a significant association with the selected demographic variable among staff nurses such as marital status (X2=11.7 and P value = 0.01) and family structure (X2=11.5 and P value= 0.02) with the self-structured rating scale. CONCLUSION The study on preliminary effort focused on the evaluate of factors influencing nurse absenteeism among staff nurses at SMVMCH, Puducherry. The data was collected from 30 staff nurses working in ward setting. There is a significance association with their selected demographic variables include marital status and family structure.
