ABSTRACT Studying Gender and Sexual Identity in Aaron's Prayers for Bobby and Lee's Angel - Dr. C. Lalrinzuala Guest Lecturer Department of English and Culture Studies Mizoram University This paper attempts to tackle a controversial issue which is relevant in the world today by studying two novels based on the lives of queer individuals. The topic of gender and sexual identity has been one of the main topics of discussion everywhere whether we want it or not. The side one takes on the matter is basically irrelevant while studying as a whole and as a culturally significant issue that is prevailing in every society. The rise of medical science ushered in a plethora of categories based on identity and everyone feels the need to belong in a certain category in order to "fit in" in the society. The categorisation is mainly done based on a person's gender and sexual identity when medical science attempts to classify people according to the heteronormative standard. What is the difference between gender and sexual identity? This is a question which a lot of people are asking and this paper attempts to answer the question by analysing the experiences of the queer individuals in Leroy Aaron's Prayers for Bobby and Laura Lee's Angel.
