As the founder of Indian Constitution, Dr. B.R.Ambedkar has contributed a lot for the successful conduction of elections in the country through the constitutional body of Election Commission. Ambedkar advocated the independence of the Election Commission from the executive in its working for the conduction of elections in a free and fair manner once for every five years. He made the Election Commissioners independent of the executive in discharging their duties at the time of elections. As far as removal of the election commissioners are concerned Ambedkar recommended the same manner as the judges of the High courts and Supreme court. The removal process should be initiated only after the recommendation of the Chief Election Commissioner. The first general elections were conducted in the country in the years 1951-52 and the representative democracy got established in the country and put an end to hereditary rule in the country which was followed for centuries in the country.
