  Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze peasant strategies, in particular those of agro-pastoralists in the sylvopastoral zone, in a context of high rainfall variability, climate vulnerability and a great trend in environmental conditions deterioration Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyze peasant strategies, in particular those of agro-pastoralists in the sylvopastoral zone, in a context of high rainfall variability, climatic vulnerability and a great trend of deterioration in environmental conditions. It is based on the study of adaptation strategies and the responses and requirements of maintaining production systems. In fact, in a context of deteriorating living conditions for rural populations, the profitability of agricultural activity has diminished considerably and has led producers to a process of seeking financing alternatives through a multitude of initiatives. local which generate dynamics within society (Association, Farmer groups, tontines, microfinance institution). However, the successes and the potential for action remain limited in view of the scale of the needs, and, in this context, the vulnerable situation of farms, in the face of upheavals or climatic shocks, remains a major problem in an area where The living conditions of the populations, in particular those of the farmers, continue to deteriorate. If they are not amplified by outdated or ill-suited farming methods, public funding intended for the agricultural sector is often directed towards productions less exposed to climatic hazards and less mobilizing labor (rice, market gardening, etc) who enroll fewer workers in the rural world. This is the framework for analyzing household strategies and survival. But rather than a paradigm, this approach relies on a conceptual field of choice and real freedom or capability. More specifically, the article discusses, on the one hand, the capacity of households to produce risk reduction approaches (ex-ante), and on the other hand, the implementation of effective strategies (ex-post) in period of shock harmful to living conditions. These strategies have taken place to varying degrees in varying forms and depending on the specificity of households. It is particularly a question of being part of a process of understanding the alternatives developed to cope with the acute living conditions in a region where the frequent recourse to credit access strategies seems to be gaining a foothold and even intensifying. . Thus, the article aims, among other things, to shed light on this issue of adaptation to climate change through the sylvopastoral zone (ZSP), an area par excellence of pastoralism affected by strong climatic instability, but also, like other regions of the country subject to policies of economic liberalism.
