Nearly all the Indian English women novelists from Anita Desai to Shashi Deshpande have done so. What makes Nayantara Sahgal's voice more strident is her unhappy experiences of her married life. The typical male chauvinism that she encountered there as well as the gross injustice to women in social life that she observed made her voice loud in protest against exploitation of women.
