Abstract
The paper makes an effort to examine the women status in India. Our country has
realized the importance of the women development, number of planned efforts have been
made for their growth by the government. The paper has examined the progress made with
regard to social, health, literacy and workforce participation in general and on weaker
sections particularly. The study is based on the secondary. It is observed that a significant
change occurred in various aspects. Further, it is also observed the gap between the
mainstream and weaker section women population still persisting. Therefore there is an
urgent need to bring these downtrodden into the mainstream of the society.
