Abstract
Biogas is a developing alternative energy source engendered from the anaerobic digestion of organic matter by bacteria. It is composed primarily of methane and carbon dioxide (CO2) with trace amounts of other toxic compounds, such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S). The presence of CO2 decreases the energy yield from the combustion of biogas. Past studies have utilized extravagant and environmentally deleterious chemicals to purify biogas. This study involves the construction of a biogas purification system that utilizes microalgae to metabolize and abstract impurities from the system as well as gives treatment to sewage waste water. This method has the distinct advantage of being renewable due to the self-propagation of the microalgae. The microalgae are additionally engendering hydrocarbon products that can be utilized as a bio-fuel.
