Abstract
Food evokes myriad sensations and emotions and straddles diverse fields, from literature and culture to science and technology. From the simplest, most primitive ways of consuming nutrients essential for survival to the advanced, technology-driven food availability, the saga of food intersects politics, economics, and culture. The article is a general exploration of how food is produced, naturally and artificially, and how it is consumed, with a focus on nutrition and taste. It also sees its inroads into gender and caste issues to build, sometimes, a national or regional narrative of food.
