Abstract
ABSTRACT:
This paper studies and analysis the poem �waiting for the Barbarians� from different perspectives. The major concern and the perspective of the poem is the dialectics of �self �and �the other�. It reverses the binary opposites where �the other�is generally seen as underdeveloped , savage and uncivilised altogether. This poem is being analysed from perspective of the natives who consider � the other� as barbaric. The natives waiting for the barbarians to come and change rules and laws for them, they are sitting ready to follow rules without questioning. Poet here, firmly stress on the idea that natives were ruled not because of they were feeble or they lacked power but because they allowed the other to rule them. The natives eagerly waited for the arrival of barbarians and so that they can empower them . The poem reflects that nobody can rule a person or a country till that person is embedded with power by the self. The other perspective revealed by the poem is that although the natives are aware of richness, uniqueness of their culture still they want the other to come to their land and rule over them. Those who are different from us are always perceived differently, having something that they lack.
