Friction stir welding (FSW) is a newly developed solid-state welding method which came into existence in 1991 and has gained a lot of prominence for joining different materials like aluminum, copper, magnesium etc. This process is highly efficient, environmental friendly and has wide applications in the aerospace, shipbuilding and transportation industries. Unlike fusion welding process, FSW does not involve melting of the material, therefore various fusion welding defects are not present in FSW leading to improved mechanical properties of the joint. This paper provides an overview of the FSW process and its variants. The basic principle of FSW is described along with the important process parameter affecting the microstructure and joints properties. Microstructure evolution and some important mechanical properties are also discussed.

A mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) is a collection of mobile hosts in which wireless network interfaces form a temporary network without the aid of any fixed infrastructure or centralized administration. Due to the characteristics of MANET like dynamic topology, the mobile ad hoc networks are vulnerable to different security threats. One of such security threat is black hole attack which is caused by the malicious nodes which takes part in the network activities. In Black hole attack, a malicious node drops all the traffic in the network to make use of the vulnerabilities of the route discovery packets of the on demand protocols, such as AODV. A black hole is a malicious node that incorrectly replies the route requests that it has a fresh route to destination and when the source node sends packet through it then it drops all the receiving packets. The performance of any protocol in presence of a malicious node heavily depends on the total area and the time of simulation.

Sub-Saharan countries are growing at rapid speed in respect of population and industrialization, among them Ethiopia can be a model. Thisstudy has astounding weighing up all consideration of the different types of wastewatercomplicationssuch as domestic wastewater of major cities of Ethiopia, Universities, textile, coffee processing and irrigational wastewater. Ethiopia is at budding stage in management ofwastewater treatment process. The major cities cumulative wastewater generation is 6,19,912 m3/day, out of which less than 10% is treated. Few new conventional treatment systems were implemented in seven Universities by federal government of Ethiopia but more work as to be done. Agriculture, Textileand coffee industries are the backbone of Ethiopian economy but they also add huge amount pollutants like synthetic organic chemicals, dyes, and organic which is a great challenge to be managed by developing economies. This paper has focussed on various economical techniques to reuse and recover wastewater, so that can be utilized in other purposes. Total organic carbon was reduced by 84% and 49 % using 10% loaded TiO2-Zeolite Y and pristine TiO2 in textile effluent and using bioremediation media have also shown promising results. Avocado peel carbon (APC) reduced COD and BOD by 98.20% and 99.18%, respectively in coffee effluent. When coagulation-flocculationand UV/H2O2/O3 oxidation process was used to treat coffee effluent, COD was reduced by 67% and 87%, respectively. Pesticides are absorbed through anthropogenic microspheres; sediments into water can be treated activated bio-char. These low-cost treatments can improve the life of people

Digital image watermarking refers to embedding a digital data into a cover image to later prove the ownership or authentication of the document. Image watermarking find its applications in a number of areas including copyright protection, authentication, scientific analysis, medical analysis etc. to name a few. There are two important issues that watermarking algorithms need to address. Firstly, watermarking schemes are required to provide trustworthy evidence for protecting rightful ownership; Secondly, good watermarking schemes should satisfy the requirement of robustness and resist distortions due to common image manipulations (such as filtering, compression, etc.). In addition to these two requirements, the watermarking must be embedded in such a way so that the perceptible quality of the image will not go below a certain threshold. In past years, a number of image watermarking algorithms have been proposed, based on LSB, DFT, DCT, DWT etc. In this dissertation, a watermarking algorithm is presented to embed watermark in transform domain using SVD transform. SVD transform is a type of compression in which singular values of a matrix are approximated, thereby implementing a lossy compression at the cost of image quality. In this dissertation, U matrix is used for watermark embedding, by redundantly embedding the watermark bits in the 4X4 non overlapping blocks of the image. Thus, the effect of 4 bits of payload data is scattered to 10 pixels of the cover watermark image thereby giving a smooth embedding with high fidelity

Adder is a unit block in the designing of the digital circuit design. Half adder and Full adder is mostly used in the addition and addition of product term in the multiplication. Mostly Ripple carry adder and Carry Look Ahead adder is used for addition of four bits. RCA consumes the least power but is the slowest (propagation delay is the most) while the CLA is the fastest but requires more power. A CLA is designed using the reversible Adiabatic logic which results in the power consumption as well as the propagation delay in a practical and usable range and is preferred over RCA and other adders

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. Early detection of breast cancer increases the chances of survival. Early detection of microcalcification forecast about cancer and reduction in mortality. Mammography is the best diagnostic technique for screening breast cancer. However, the interpretation of mammograms is not easy because of small differences in densities of different tissues within the image. This is especially true for dense breasts. For early detection of mammograms segmentation is very useful. This paper is contains early detection of microcalcification by analyzing mammographic images using Foveal segmentation. This analysis could provide radiologists a better understanding , if it is detected at an early stage than it is decrease in mortality.

An efficient energy-management system for Lead Acid Battery, using Matlab and Arduino, was developed and tested. The system uses an ACS712 sensor to detect current and voltage in the circuit while LM35 Thermistor is used to detect the temperature. The data output from these sensors is stored and manipulated through Arduino (microcontroller). The State of charge (SOC) of the battery is the index which shows the amount of charge present in the battery. The SOC depends upon various parameters, such as current, voltage, temperature and pressure. In this experiment the temperature, current and voltage are considered for determining the SOC.

The main objective of this paper is to control the speed of separately excited DC Motor using a Sliding mode controller based on VSS approach. This controller is based on variable structure systems which aim at reducing the peak overshoot, steady state error and settling time of a DC Motor. The simulation results show that Sliding mode controller is superior than PI for speed control of DC motor. Since the SMC is robust in presence of disturbances, the desired speed is perfectly tracked.

Low-contrast images in medical imaging would be acquired commonly, which may interfere with the regular diagnosis. Improvement with enhancement is one of the key tools in medical image analysis. The enhancement during the preprocessing stage includes contrast improvement, brightness and noise removal or to provide enhanced input for further automated image processing procedures. The chief motive of performing the image enhancement is to reveal the hidden information in feature or to enhance the low contrast image. This study is yield in two different medical modalities CT-scan, and X-ray. Analytical computation of different filters between original image and filtered image by calculating PSNR and MSE of all these medical images shows the performance of filters. This experimental study which is performed, can improve the accuracy of medical images (X-ray, CT-scan) for easy detection of disease.

Data analysis is used as a common method in modern science research, which is through communication science, computer science and biology science. Clustering, as the basic composition of data analysis, plays a significant role. On one hand, many tools for cluster analysis have been designed, along with the information increase and subject intersection. On the other hand, each clustering algorithm has its own strengths and weaknesses, due to the complexity of information. In this review paper, we initiate at the explanation of clustering, take the primary elements involved in the clustering process, such as the distance or similarity measurement and evaluation indicators, into consideration, and analyse the clustering algorithms from two perspectives, the traditional ones and the modern ones. All the discussed clustering algorithms will be compared in detail and comprehensively

In the recent decades, Urbanization has increased tremendously. At the same phase there is an increase in waste production. Waste management has been a crucial issue to be considered. This paper is a way to achieve this good cause. In this paper, smart bin is built on a microcontroller based platform Arduino Uno board which is interfaced with GSM modem and Ultrasonic sensor. Ultrasonic sensor is placed at the top of the bin which will measure the stature of the bin. The threshold stature is set as 10cm. Arduino will be programmed in such a way that when the bin is being filled, the remaining height from the threshold height will be displayed. Once the garbage reaches the threshold level ultrasonic sensor will trigger the GSM modem which will continuously alert the required authority until the garbage in the bin is squashed.. At regular intervals bin will be squashed. Another serious peril that follows is the escalating amount of waste generated each minute by an individual. An astounding 0.1 million tonnes of waste is generated each day in India. Sadly, only 5% of this colossal amount of waste is recycled. One possible solution for this problem could be segregating the waste at the disposal level itself. In India, the collection, transportation and disposal of MSW are unscientific and chaotic. This has found to reduce the average life span of the manual segregators. Developing a mechanized system to help save the lives of many and making the world a cleaner and a greener place is the noble objective of this research. Thus the proposed work focuses on an automatic waste segregator that aims at segregating the waste at the disposal level itself.

In this paper, a surface modification method was proposed to introduce strong polarity groups to rubber surface to generate a strong chemical bond between the rubber and the cement matrix. Rubber was first oxidized with KMnO4 solution and then sulphonated with NaHSO3 solution. The Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectra and contact angle measurement showed that the oxidation and sulphonation process introduced a large number of hydrophilic hydroxyl and sulfonate to crumb rubber and decreased the contact angle between rubber surface and water, thus greatly improved the interfacial bonding strength between crumb rubber and cement paste. After the rubber surface modification, the adhesion strength of the rubber and cement paste was increased by 41.1%. It was also found in the mechanical tests that the rubber surface modification was quite useful to enhance the compressive strength and impact strength of rubber-cement concrete. The compressive strength of the concrete with 4% modified rubber powder was 48.7% higher than that with ordinary rubber powder. Based on the results, it is concluded that the surface modification of crumb rubber with KMnO4 and NaHSO3 solutions is an effective method to improve the mechanical properties of rubber-cement concrete.

Water is becoming a scarce resource as a result of the growing demand in various purposes such as hydropower, irrigation, and water supply etc. With growing population the demand of water for various purposes is ever increasing. On the other hand, the availability of water of water resources is limited in space and time. A systematic and scientific planning for its optimal utilization is high imperative. Use of modern techniques in irrigation will go a long way in economizing consumption and saving of water which will bring greater areas under command and will ultimately result in more agricultural yield. Water requirements and irrigation scheduling of major crops, namely, Sugarcane, Rice, Tobacco, etc. are determined using the CROPWAT model.

This paper discusses the design of an Integrated Circuit (IC) based for a Demultiplexer. The based was designed by using an open source software namely Electric VLSI Design System as the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tool. In order to produce the based, the basic knowledge of fabrication process and IC design rules are expounded. The complete based of the Demultiplexer was designed based on its schematic circuit, which consists of NOT gates, 2-input NAND gates, 3-input NAND gates, 4-input NAND gates, 2-input AND gates and 3-input AND gates. The based had undergone Design Rule Check (DRC) set by the Electric VLSI Design System to check for any design rule error. Both based and schematic circuit of the Demultiplexer were then simulated through Based versus Schematic (LVS) to ensure they were identical. LT spice is used as simulator to carry out the simulation work and verify the validity of the function. The simulation output indicated that results of the based and schematic circuit for Demultiplexer were essentially identical and matches the theoretical results.?

Ceramics form an important part of material groups. The growth of appropriate joining methods to self-bond hard ceramics or for bonding ceramic to metals has been a major target, aiming at cutting edge applications of ceramics such as engine components and advanced gas turbines. When bonding ceramics, the main difficulty is to get an intimate contact between the materials to be joined and when joining dissimilar materials and specially ceramics to metals, the main concern is the development of high residual stresses in the considered materials. Today a range of joining methods has been developed for joining ceramic to ceramic or ceramic to metal. In this paper processing, joining methods and application of ceramic materials in various fields are discussed.

Data warehouse system is becoming progressively important for decision-makers. Most of the queries against a large data warehouse are complex and iterative. The ability to answer these queries efficiently is a critical issue in the data warehouse environment. If the right index architecture are built on columns, the performance of queries, especially ad hoc queries will be greatly enhanced. In this paper, we provide a survey of various indexing techniques such as B-tree, Bit-mapped, Join and Projection index being studied/used in both academic research and industrial applications. With the beginning of powerful new indexing technologies, instant and ad-hoc queries and fast data analysis are possible using existing databases. Despite the good customer service and data analysis capabilities, many customer services and data warehousing applications lack good performance. To meet this task in business applications such as customer services, e-commerce etc., data warehouses must deliver data quickly through user friendly methods.

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid state joining process that involves joining of metals without fusion or filler materials. The frictional heat is produced from a rapidly rotating non-consumable high strength tool pin that extends from a cylindrical shoulder. The process is particularly applicable for aluminium alloys but can be extended to other products also. Plates, sheets and hollow pipes can be welded by this method. The process is also suitable for automation. The weld produced is of finer microstructure and superior in characteristics to that parent metal. FSW finds application in shipbuilding, aerospace, railway, electrical and automotive industry. The limitations of FSW are reduced by intensive research and development. Its cost effectiveness and ability to weld dissimilar metals makes it a commonly used welding process in recent times.

Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices have been proposed to be effective for controlling power flow and regulating bus voltage in electrical power systems, resulting in an increased power transfer capability, low system losses. Voltage variations can be stabilized and controlled by providing required reactive power. The low voltages reduce the power transfer through the transmission lines and may lead to Instability. Hence FACTS Controllers are widely used in Interconnected Power Systems to control the voltage levels within the tolerable limits. Placement of these devices in suitable location can lead to control in line flow and maintain bus voltages in desired level and so improve voltage stability margins. This paper presents the GA optimization technique to find optimal location of TCSC device for reduction of power losses so thereby improves the voltage profile of the power system network. The optimizations are performed on two parameters: the location of the devices, and their values. The results are compared with and without the TCSC device. To show the validity of the proposed techniques and for comparison purposes, simulation carried out on an IEEE- 30 Bus test system.

Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a major resource in engineering industries where it is being heavily utilized for the purpose of heating and production. It comprises of a mixture of propane, butane, and its hydrocarbons. Since it is a clean gas with high calorific value, it is heavily used. This has also caused a tremendous increase in the price of LPG. Moreover, it is well known that propane gas has higher calorific value and pressure than LPG. Also, it is lower in cost and has lesser weight as compared to LPG. In this paper, a paradigm shift from normal LPG to propane gas has been deployed for the execution of brassing, heating and production processes. Also, we have elaborated our observations of a 14 days experiment at a bicycle plant when the fuel was changed from normal LPG to propane. The total saving of fuel consumption was 301.6 kg which helped in the cost reduction of 2.73 lacs. This transformation can prove to be a boon for the upcoming manufacturing industries.

Product quality is very important for the company. This is because, bad quality products will affect the consumer's confidence, image and sales of the company. It may even affect the survival of the company. So, it is very important for every company to make better quality products. Product quality is also very important for consumers. In the manufacturing industry, it is commonly stated that "Quality drives productivity." Improved productivity is a source of greater revenues, employment opportunities and technological advances. In manufacturing industries, manufacturers focus on both the quality and productivity. To increase the productivity, computer numerically control (CNC) machine tools have been implemented during the past decades. Surface roughness is one of the most important parameters to determine the quality of product. The mechanism behind the formation of surface roughness is very dynamic, complicated, and process dependent. Several factors influence the surface roughness obtained in a CNC turning operation. These can be categorized as controllable factors (spindle speed, feed rate and depth of cut) and uncontrollable factors (tool geometry and material properties of both tool and work piece. The aim of present study is to develop surface roughness prediction models using response surface methodology (RSM) based on centre composite rotatable design (CCRD). An attempt has also been to analyse the effect of machining conditions on surface roughness during turning of AISI 316 L stainless steel with carbide insert.

Due to the increase in oil prices and high environmental dynamism, organizations delivering in affected markets need to identify ways to reduce time to market (TTM) and cost of non-quality (CONQ) of their commercialization processes, in addition to pursuing and developing new markets. In order to survive over time, organizations need to manage knowledge for exploitation and exploration, utilizing existing competencies and acquiring new ones. Companies in the manufacturing industry today are faced with increasing challenges with respect to cost effectiveness, lead time and quality of the production system. Dealing with these contradictory goals, an important task is the selection of suitable solutions for the integration of inspection processes in the industry within the process chain, which are necessary to ensure the required production quality and quantity. Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a state of the art tool which is very often used for this by professionals. Value stream mapping (VSM) is used to analyses the lead times, work in progress levels (WIPs) and non-value added time. From the current state VSMs of bar-cutting/bending and column processes we have significant lead times, idle times Improvements are done by identifying the wastes and eliminating them and reducing the non-adding value. Therefore, in this article an innovative approach called Quality Value Stream Mapping (QVSM) is presented. Based on the design elements of VSM, it provides a suitable tool for the visualization, analysis and design of quality assurance measures within process chains in manufacturing. The implementation of the developed approach is exemplarily shown for Value stream in the process industry.

Metal machining has a very important process in manufacturing. Machining Conditions play a vital role in estimating the performance of machining operations. It have long been recognized that the machining conditions, such as cutting speed, feed and depth of cut affect the performance of the operation in great extent. These parameters must be selected to optimize the quality of machining operations. The objective of the present work is to analyze the effects of the machining parameters in turning on the surface roughness parameters of AISI 1019 carbon steel is suitable for manufacturing wire rods and many other products. The Design of experiments based on response surface methodology with three numeric factors (cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut) five level central composite rotatable designs have been used to develop relationships for predicting surface roughness. The surface roughness parameters were measured using surface roughness tester (Surf coder SE 1200) the design expert software has been used for the analysis. A quadratic model and linear Model have been developed which indicates that interaction is present between the machining parameters (speed, feed and depth of cut). Model adequacy tests were conducted using ANOVA table and the effects of various parameters were investigated and presented in the form of contour plots and 3D surface graphs. Numerical optimization was carried out considering all the input parameters within range so as to minimize the surface roughness. The optimal values obtained are cutting speed 259.46 m/min, feed 0.20mm/rev, depth of cut 0.35 mm. The findings of this study would be beneficial to manufacturing industries where surface finishing plays very important role

Despite of its type, location or principal market base, today the manufacturing enterprises are bound to adopt sustainable practices like lean principles, integration of processes and inter-organizational collaborations to meet their corporate goals. The majority of studies usually discuss either a system or a subcomponent of the production systems and manufacturing strategies in literature w.r.t. lean production; but the rational (what, why, how) behind each production activity seems to be missing. This paper addresses a comprehensive assessment of the literature on lean production in relation to the green concept, for its significance, feasibility and need for organizations to sustain in the global market. Findings of the review reveal that lean principles along with green model can improve the process flow & employee morale and lower the environmental regulatory non-compliance risk. Further, the environmental and human health risks are often not explicitly considered in lean initiatives that can affect customers & stakeholders throughout the product life cycle, and the manufacturing enterprises working with lean strategies have the possibility of costs sub-optimization and waste reduction from a lifecycle viewpoint. Eg the outcome of a ball industry has been increased by using the principles of lean manufacturing. As the lean manufacturing implies the reduction of waste with in the manufacturing process by categorizing all the activities and processes into three fields namely value adding, non value adding & non value adding but necessary. The methodology used for the project is to first prepare the current state map by collecting data from the shop floor and thenanalyzing it for the possible areas of improvements. After that the analysis and comparison of the suggested solutions with the old one has been done and finally proposed the future state map.

as requirement of power resources are increasing, demand of non-conventional resources is also increased. In this field, solar and wind are the main resources to generate power. In this paper review of such techniques is carried out which are used in wind energy generation. Various generators used with different control techniques to manage stability and to improve output parameters along with efficiency. Doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) taken as base for this paper and fuzzy logic controller (FLC) for the controlling part of converters in grid side converter (GSC) and rotor side converter (RSC) of generator. Active and reactive power are the main parameters to be considered and many researchers worked to improve these parameters which is reviewed and concluded that there is a scope of improvement in parameters by analyzing these parameters and this technique is used with any type of generator due to its flexibility and noncomplex modelling.
