 Abstract

Background: Selfie is a modern phenomenon of the 21st century; the work of taking and sharing a selfie with friends/others pre-dates the Internet and was named the Oxford Dictionary Word for the year 2013 (Veena & Krishnamurthy 2015). This led to the emergence of new social phenomena that have a strong impact on society, say the selfie, a modern evolution of the self portrait usually taken with a digital camera or a camera phone (Mazza, et. al., 2016). Now Selfies are not individual phenomenon but rather involves actors perspective, the relevant others and societal perspectives. Methods: The present study has a descriptive-cum-explanatory research design and Secondary source of data was used for the research. Selfies have been mainly discussed in the academic world from a communicative and gender perspective. Given the strong social implications, now time has come to look at it from the broader perspective and to analyse this phenomenon through the prism of sociological standpoint. Results: This highlighted how the selfie phenomenon is perceived differently in various cultures and societies. In particular, the results show that factors such religion, sex, customs and geopolitical situations affect the space-time, distribution of selfies around the world. The tendency of taking own pictures has turn into an observable fact of the new culture of the society. Furthermore, there are notable differences between how women and men present themselves online. These differences reflect the traditional values of how men and women should present themselves in society. Though there are positive facets of selfies but the addiction of selfie leads to Skin damage, Loss self-confidence & self esteem, Suicide, Mental illness, damage real relationships, Plastic surgery even Deaths especially among youth. Coclusion: In this century, the technology and social media is influence our life directly. In this manner, the selfie take more place on youth. They share their selfies on Facebook and posted selfie on WhatsApp, viber, twitter, instagram. According to review of secondary literature, the research finding revealed that there is a negative impact of selfie particularly on youth. Time has come to create public awareness about the negative consequences of selfies right from the school to the community and society level. The phenomenon of selfie is not peculiar to some societies or nations, rather it is happening all over the world.

 Abstract

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: In the new age busy world, one fine day everything came to halt or rather stand still due to a new species of infectious virus known as Corona Virus Disease 2019 or COVID-19. This unprecedented challenge requires a coordinated global response. The government around the world have taken the route of Lock Down to Knock Down Corona. Sports authority of India (SAI) has left no stone unturned for the protection of Elite and non-elite athletes in their centres all over India. For the athletes safety Olympic games that were supposed to be held in TOKYO, in July 2020 announced its postponement to August 2021. OBJECTIVE: The study aims at understanding eating pattern of the athletes of different foods before amid during COVID-19 Lockdown. METHODOLOGY: Study was done using a well-planned questionnaire. Study was carried out through filling of google forms due to Social Distancing during COVID-19 lock down. 128 participants were included based on their willingness to participate in the study. The athletes are a part of SAI, NSSC, Bangalore. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Among 128 participants, 67 were men athletes and 61 were female athletes. The participants were between the age group of 20 35 years. More than half (54%) n=69 was in lockdown for 16 20 days, almost half (43%) n= 55 were in lockdown for 10 15 days. Amongst Non-vegetarians, those who consumed once a day had reduced drastically from 33%(n=42 ) to 7% (n=9). Paneer consumption amongst vegetarians showed a decrease in daily consumption. Those who ate paneer twice a week 12%(n=16) had reduced to 5%(n=6). This was done to adjust the protein consumption in reduced training situations. The athletes showed increased weekly consumption of fruits and vegetables though daily cosumption had slightly reduced. Athletes dairy consumption showed marginal changes before and during the lock down period. 50% (n=63) athletes consumed dairy every day before lock down increased to 60% (n=77) athletes during lock down. Snacking amongst the athletes reduced from 61% (n=79) to 43% (n=56). The athletes were aware of the healthy snack options, they were occasionally having junk foods like chats (12%, n=15) where as they mostly preferred healthy options like fruits (46%, n=59), dry fruits (16%, n=21).The athletes presented a low percentage of ordering food from these online delivery apps before (76%, n=19) who ordered once a week and none (0%, n=0) during the lock down even after these companies resumed services. The athletes had active individual training even during the lock down period. To beat dehydration most of them had regular and sufficient water consumption during the lock down. Majority of them 70% (n=89) trained during the unexpected COVID-19 lockdown. Majority of athletes 51%(n=65) had 6- 8 hrs of sleep. 70% (n=90) showed moderate stress and 20%(n=25) showed less stress. Time spent on gadgets were monitored. 53% (n=68) used these gadgets between 2-4 hrs only. Free time in the athletes were effectively utilized 22% (n=28) of them tried some new hobbies like painting, singing etc. 20% (n=25) spent time reading books, a rare one these days. CONCLUSION: The study revealed that the athletes were well informed on the nutritional periodisation during a reduced training period or intensity. The athletes were able to manage their eating pattern from home/ hostel to their best. Nutrition education has tremendously helped the athletes to make wise choices of the diet. The athletes must be appreciated for the healthy eating pattern they followed Staying at Home, Staying Safe.

 Abstract

This paper proposes a wired system for observing submerged pipeline infrastructure. This paper uses a wired tether which is used for the communication between client and server. Raspberry Pi and remote PC both are part of client-server architecture and that is communicated over TCPIP protocol, also Raspberry Pi communicates with PixHawk over a serial connection. Fathom-X tether allows the use of Ethernet and power over 2 wires and distances up to 300 meters. In this system, we are using a pair of Fathom-x boards for sending information and power back and forth on the PixHawk. This wired network connected to sensor devices that measure specific parameters such as underwater pressure and temperature. Global Positioning System (GPS) also connected to PixHawk to send sensed information from underwater to the topside computer far from the pipeline. A low-light HD USB camera attached to Raspberry pi, which receives control data from raspberry pi and sends pictures and recordings to the remote PC, and they are generally used for underwater surveillance. The wired arrangements give high information rate and exact arrangements particularly for submerged pipeline checking, wired system also provide higher communication bandwidth. On a test with two wire tethers, the data test comes with 81.2 Mbps rate.

 Abstract

Underwater wireless communication is a technique of sending and receiving messages below the water. The wireless underwater communication technology is a progressing area in communication . Research has been active for over a decade on developing different methods for wireless underwater transmission. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a underwater wireless communication system with better data rates and in an easy manner by developing an IoT node and a floating gateway. The users can access the system and give commands to the IoT node through the floating gateway. Floating unit, placed on the surface of water can act as a gateway between the user and the IoT node. The user allows the RF transmitters in floating unit to send commands to the IoT node which is under the water and it will perform the application from the user. So here developing a new system which can have a lot of underwater applications such as underwater valve controlling , underwater explosion etc.

 Abstract

Probiotics are the living cell organisms. It is present in human and animal gut. The probiotic organisms can also be thought of as natural antibiotics in the human-animal gut. They also prove to be beneficial for health when regulated in sufficient sums. Probiotic group of bacteria includes Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Pediococcus, Lactococcus, Bacillus and yeasts strains. Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are the main probiotic groups; however, there are reports on the probiotic potential of Pediococcus, Lactococcus, Bacillus and yeasts. Some of the identified probiotic strains exhibit powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and other important properties. Apart from that, the consumption of dairy and non-dairy products stimulates the immunity in different ways.

 Abstract

Stories are an integral part of who we are as people.. For First Nations people traditional story telling was mostly based on the spoken word. The literature produced by the native women writers of Canada is the literature of protest challenging established value systems: colonial, patriarchal or upper class. The history of Canada is a history of the colonization of Aboriginal people. It is a society marked by a structural and psychological relationship between the colonizer and the colonized whose relationship is reflected in its history, politics and literature. Lee Marable, is one of the first Aboriginal writers in Canada to publish fiction and she is considered the grandmother of Aboriginal literature, especially after her groundbreaking work in Bobby Lee: Indian Rebel and I am a woman. In this paper an attempt is made to analyze Lee Miracles novel Bobbi Lee: Indian Rebel, especially the impact of colonization and dehumanization which seem to surface in the lives which help understand what it really means to be a native in Canada. The social and cultural background traces the writers feminine concerns to find out how she became personally and politically aware not only as a women but as a true Native woman. Living in isolation in the margins of society, the original people of Canada have suffered a great loss that can never be recovered.
