From the early 1970s new forms of social mobilisation began in India. They gained a variety of names such as social movement, people's movement, popular movements, socio-political movements etc.[1] These movements emerged and highlighted some of the major issues such as gender and environment. One of the leading analyst and participant in social movements in India, Sanjay Sangvi, identified the major agendas of them as "Movements of landless, unorganised labour in rural and urban areas, adivasis, dalits, displaced people, peasants, urban poor, small entrepreneurs and unemployed youth took up the issues of livelihood, opportunities, dignity and development." Most well known movements in the country are Chipko movement, Save Silent Valley, Narmada BachaoAndolan, Honour for Women National Campaign, KoelKaro, Chhattisgarh MuktiMorcha, JholaAandolan (fighting polythene), Appiko movement, Save Kudremukh, LokSatta Movement, Swadhyay Movement, SwatantraSharad Joshi [1], Karnataka RajyaRaithaSangha [2] These movements largely distanced themselves from political parties, or tried to cut across the ideologies of the political parties. Yet many of them rooted themselves or drew from ideologies of the Mahatma Gandhi, various shades environmentalisms or gender politics, or socialism.

Steel moment resisting frame designed by performance based plastic design are carried out in this study. The design of moment resisting frame is usually governed by drift limits rather than strength because of their high flexibility. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of a 9 story steel moment resisting frame designed according to performance based plastic design with three different target drift limits 1%, 2% and 3%. Seismic analysis in this study has been carried out by non-linear static analysis (pushover analysis). The results of non-linear static analysis and an example of steel moment resisting frame designed by performance based plastic design are presented.

How does governing in coalitions affect coalition parties’ responsiveness to voters? In this article, we seek to understand the relationship between political parties’ participation in multiparty governments and their responsiveness to voters. We argue that the extent to which coalition parties respond to policy priorities of voters is influenced by the divisiveness of policy issues within the cabinet and the ministerial responsibility for policies. To test our hypotheses, we combine data on the issue attention of 55 coalition parties from the Comparative Manifestos Project with data on government composition and data on the policy priorities of voters from the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems and various election studies in 45 elections across 16 European countries from 1972 to 2011. Any party may gain majority in the lower house, if not, coalitions are formed by the political parties to gain a majority in the lower house for formation of government. This research study will analyze its nature, challenges and prospects of coalition governments in Indian political process. The significance lies in the study of multi-party system, growth of regionalism and its effect on the pattern of Centre-State relations. Further, there is failure of the national consensus on a parliamentary majority because for three decades the national government was headed by a coalition government or by minority government from 1989 to 2014. From 1952 to 1977 and 1980 to 1989 was Congress dominance.

Social movements mainly take the form of non-institutionalized collective political action which struggle for political and /or social transformation. In India, these movements occurred since past time. The phrase 'movement' is often used differently by different social activists, political leaders and scholars. Some academics use the term 'movement' interchangeably with 'organisation' or 'union'. Other social researchers use it to mean a historical trend or tendency. Some claim to launch movements by issuing press statements on public issues.

To understand regionalism, we need to know various dimensions of the region. Region as a geographical unit, is delimited form each other. Region as a social system, reflects the relation between different human beings and groups. Regions are an organised cooperation in cultural, economic, political or military fields. Region acts as a subject with distinct identity, language, culture and tradition. Regionalism is an ideology and political movement that seeks to advance the causes of regions. As a process it plays role within the nation as well as outside the nation i.e. at international level. At the international level, regionalism refers to transnational cooperation to meet a common goal or to resolve a shared problem or it refers to a group of countries such as-Western Europe, or Southeast Asia, linked by geography, history or economic features. Used in this sense, regionalism refers to attempts to reinforce the links between these countries economic features. The second meaning of the term is regionalism at national level refers to a process in which sub-state actors become increasingly powerful, power devolves from central level to regional governments. These are the regions within country, distinguished in culture, language and other socio-cultural factors.

Role of Non-government Organizations (NGOs) in the development process in the third world countries like India is very crucial, especially in the 21st Century. They have a greater role to play in the lives and livelihoods of the tribal and backward communities of India today. An attempt has been made in this paper to see the role of an NGO in the development of lamani settlement. It is also attempted to understand how the information and support from the agency (NGO) helped the community to become self-reliant. The present paper is an outcome of fieldwork among lamani settlement in the Gangajal Tanda as part of PhD work. An NGO by name NEEDS is working for the development of lamani dominant tribe (economically, socially, politically and numerically in Karnataka )inhabited in Gangajal Tanda settlement Of Haveri r District in Karnataka The drawbacks of the developmental interventions of the agency or civil society are also examined in this paper.
